I would not be surprised if Arkansas had some roaming in places.
That could be one.

Well I can tell you for a fact there was one in the Ouachita Mountains north of Albert Pike about ten years ago because I saw it during the day and that night the thing came up to our camp, got within thirty yards of us and cut loose a scream that almost made everyone there shite themselves.
We were camped in a valley by a creek between two mountains and he was in the valley with us. Probably just passing through but if he wasn't, then he came up with the intention of grabbing either a baby or a weiner dog because we had both and got pissed off by the light and the adults. Whatever set him off, that scream is the most instantly terrifying thing you will ever hear at that range. We spent the rest of the night with pistols in our hands and flashlights searching.
