I stumbled on a four year-old blog post about what city/stadium would be the best choice for an "American Wembley", our first-choice venue for the biggest national team games: Part 1, Part 2. The winner was...Pittsburgh! I always thought RFK would be a good candidate for this, but DC United's impending departure will kill that possibility. The argument the blogger makes for Pittsburgh is strong and the lack of a large local fanbase isn't as important now that so many people travel to the games.

Also, they stressed having a low local Hispanic population. Here is a map of Hispanic pop. density for reference:

If this was written today, I wonder what this guy would be saying.

Actually I don't, because I am sure he would say Seattle.

I say Kansas City, after all we have the best SSS in the country and if you are looking for a big venue, why not the loudest stadium in the world?

We've had some good crowds in Kansas City. DC has been good to us and when RFK comes down a I hope we play some games at FedEx Field.

Yea, I don't get it.

I don't like the idea of a single national stadium. American soccer is unique and we are a vast country. We need a number of home stadiums.

A national stadium only really works in a small country where you can hop on a train and get there in a couple of hours even though I think it wouldn't hunt England to play atleast one friendly in Liverpool or Manchester once a year.

I'm not suggesting that we play the majority of our games there and neither is the blogger. A National Stadium could be a "home base" that we put on the schedule 2-3 times per year. Assuming that we take the next step soon and start scheduling all of our home games in 50,000+ seat stadiums, we will need a go-to place in the eastern part of the country. That's basically what US Soccer is doing with DC already, but it would be nice to not have thousands of opposing fans whenever we play a Central American country.
