Stadiums need to accept that watching on tv is currently a better experience

And figure out how to compete with it.

Attendance issues and early exits aren't unique to LSU, It's conference, if not, nation wide. The issue, at its core, is that watching on tv is just a vastly superior experience now. HD quality, large screens, better angles, commentary.....all add up to a better experience for the tv viewer. Not only that, the tv viewer gets it all for free while the stadium goer is shelling out hundreds of dollars each Saturday.

If stadiums are going to compete, their approach has to change. Here's a couple of ideas to make the stadium experience better.....

1) Entertain - The flow of the game is now designed for the home viewer, not the stadium goer. The long stretches of television time-outs are absolutely killer. You have to use that time to entertain. Cartoon car races and tweets from the parking lot won't cut it. Take a page out of Georgia's playbook and show live action cut-ins to other games. Do something to fill in the boredom.

2) Offer wifi - Accept that people are absolutely addicted to their phones now. Making people go 4 hours without their phone is asking a lot. Figure out a way to allow wifi access so people can make calls, look at scores, update facebook.....do something during the long breaks.

3) Students need to get over themselves - One of the few advantages the stadium experience has over watching television is crowd interaction. The symbiotic relationship between the band and the crowd is what makes LSU special. If you make up vulgar lyrics to band songs, the songs stop and the interaction stops. Right, wrong or indifferent....that's just the way it is. Less interaction makes for a less enjoyable experience.

4) Concession catastrophes can't happen - To run out of water by halftime on a scorching day is inexcusable. They have these things called forecasts. Watch them and plan accordingly.

5) Make the nosebleed experience fun too - You can't charge people $70 to sit with the same view as a satellite and expect them stay. Would you rather sit in the stratosphere and watch ants run around or watch it on a 60 inch HD tv. Which brings me to.......

6) Embrace the big screen - Why in the world would you buy an enormous big screen and then cover 2/3's of it with advertisements. You can show ads periodically but to have ads plastered over 2/3's of the screen is pretty ridiculous, Clear off all of that crap and show the crowd things on the big screen....not just 1/3 of a big screen.

7) Sell beer - Somehow WVU figured out how to do it. So should LSU.

Whoever is in charge of the whole stadium production needs to be fired. We've had 4 home games. In those games we've had broken escalators, concessions running out of food/water/drinks/etc, nacho chips and popcorn were stale as frick on game 1,problems at the gates with getting in and being searched 3-4 times in a 20 step radius, piped in music playing over the band...... and that's just in my section of the East Upper. LSU is too big of a spectacle to be so half assed.

It's nationwide. Last week before halftime, FSU's stadium was only half full vs a ranked team (Maryland). That pic is from yesterday before halftime Tcu vs Kansas

There is also the time commitment to attending a game. You must drive to game, arrive early enough to park, walk to stadium, enter the stadium and get to your seats. Parking at college football stadiums is usually somewhat remote due to no adjacent parking lots, so factor in at least an hour for travel and getting to your seats. The game will take at least three and one-half hours if the game is televised and has the typical commercial interruptions. Add at least another hour to depart the stadium and drive home (and I'm being generous here since traffic jams after games are usually quite severe). It's at least a five and one-half hour commitment for the typical fan if you exclude any pre-game or post-game tailgating.

Doing that 7 or 8 times a year means sacrificing opportunities for other activities. And that is not always practical for all fans.

All are true that you mentioned, but this would probably solve a lot of it.

They should get Dr. Karam form the marketing department to come up with some ideas. He talks about the marketing of LSU football all the time in his marketing class.

Definitely agree.

-LSU needs to revamp all the concessions/bathrooms. New menu intems and more and nicer restrooms. I think this needs to be the top priority by TAF

-expand the small screens on the east as west sides and run real time stats and CFB scores 100% of the time.

-run a CFB redzone type channel on the big screen durning TV timeouts. I think Georgia kind of did this

-get rid on most of those ADs on the scoreboard

-sell beer

HoopyD. Well thought out ...good job , but people who make these decisions are people who are blessed with resources ...I.e. TAF members who make some of these decisions ....but they are again blessed with comfort in their luxury suites ....TV,a , air/heat, wifi , etc. why should they worry about anyone else ....they are very happy and don't need change ! I am a TAF supporter being that I pay sur charges for my season tics but I don't make decisions to say the least !

agreed

it's not an NCAA rule or an SEC rule

LSU could sell it if they wanted to.

problem is MADD would go absolutely crazy
