Because they've been sold a bunch of crap by their own and treated as though child care is a less-than-honorable endeavor.

I've never understood people who need fulfillment from their job. For me, life is about raising a family and just enjoying life. A job has one purpose - money.

Some people want to actually contribute to society and get fulfillment from it.

I'd say helping sick children when they are the most vulnerable is pretty important. I don't live to work but I did chose a job that helps others cause i enjoy it.

You can have a healthy balance of both you know.

We did the wife stay at home till the kids started school. Yes, we did without a lot, but why have kids for someone else to raise?

Yeah, I make a big time 55k a year. Look at me.

I put that in there so people wouldn't respond with "We couldn't that as a family with a house, car,and student loans."

You'll be loaded one day being MD's. Chill.

My wife stays home with the baby. We plan on her doing so, at least until he's in school. I make enough to cover all the bills. It's important to both of us that she's the one raising our son...I don't want him going to a sitter or day care. It's worth it, IMO, if it doesn't put you in a financial bind.

I think we would break even on spending. I need to look closer at the numbers. Just couldn't fully fund retirement accounts for a few years.

That can certainly be looked at as a bind since retirement saving is extremely important. Bills should be paid.

Did your wife have her own insurance with work before?

Gotta factor that in as well, you'll have to otherwise carry the whole family on yours, which can be expensive.

Yes, it is expensive. Looking at that later on the numbers part.

I did and even after the kids started school. The wife went back to school herself. That was the deal we made at the time.

Pretty sure you'll be just fine putting retirement saving on hold for a couple years.

My stay at home wife contributes more to society than 99% of working mothers at some shitty job.

My wife does not. She works.

We decided that having a nanny watch out kid for 6 hours, 4 days a week would not be terrible for our child, and we like having a savings, retirement funds, etc.
