Mayor Mike Cooper will have this thrown out in the morning. This is the last think the dept needs. This very well could become national news if the right people get a hold of this. Covington PD should have handled this after the game. These cops are an embarrassment to the dept.

The more I think about this, the more pissed I get. The arrest was totally uncalled for during the game. Idiots all around.

At the end of the game the cops escorted the remaining refs out. I was thinking, this has to be awkward.

Unreal. Did they have any other refs to fill in?
That would be a story if not.

yes, there were other refs that filled in. Apparently it was 2 that got arrested, not 3.

Covington Police Caption Jack West told Deke Bellavia what officers say happened in the incident:

"Well, a referee asked a police officer to move some people back. The police officer moved them back. Another referee came up to the police officer and told him, 'that's not far enough.' The police officer explained....would you please handle the game, referee the game, and we will handle the crowd for you. The second referee told the police officer, nose-to-nose with the police officer, 'you're out of the game...get outta here.' And the police officer said, 'excuse me sir, just referee the game, and we'll handle the crowd.' And he says 'no, get out. Get out now.'

West went on to say, "There's several witnesses that stepped forward who stepped forward to say that's what happened. So, the two referees have been arrested for public intimidation."

Public Intimidation?? Like i said, Mayor Mike Cooper will have this thrown out in morning. They released the police officers names....they are Roscoe P Coltrane and Enus.

Normally HS games have 2 officuals dressed out in the press box, 1 runs the game clock and one runs the play clock. If something happens to kne od the onfield officials then they step it.

I don't think a ref needs a cops permission to throw someone out of the game. So when he throws a cop out, I don't think the cop can refuse to leave and then arrest the cop.

That's dumb.

Stop the game.
Have the Game Administrator take care of the situation with the crowd (that's HIS responsibility).
If he doesn't, suspend the game and leave.

The handcuffs show of authority could mean no officials will accept assignments for their games; then the Mayor can get the cops to call them.

I'm not sure the refs' discretion runs to being able to throw out the city police working in an official capacity.

Still think it was an overreaction to arrest them in the middle of the game but if two refs tried to toss the cops in a power play then that is beyond stupid.
