Started watching this show on HBOGO. Seems rather morbid and dark. I like Michael C. Hall but I feel like this is the origins of Dexter I'm watching the Pilot and it seems good but depressing.

What's the boards opinion?

search for recent thread.

Most people really like the show. Greatest finale ever.

Very tough to marathon the show because almost everyone is despicable.

Brenda, Billy and Lisa could make Mother Theresa kick puppies and punch unicorns.

The mother wants me to kick kittens and small children and it's only been 30 minutes.

This series seems taxing but it definitely has some dark humor.

Someone suggested finding another show to watch along with 6 so you can take little breaks from 6.

Yeah, Ruth is pretty bad too. So is Claire.

Same with Nate.

Don't get me started on Rico and his wife.

I really do love the show but I have NEVER gone back and rewatched any episodes.

Spoiler-Free notes:

1. Greatest series finale is television history. Won't get into specifics. It's absolutely PERFECT.

2. Very depressing

3. Very uncomfortable to watch at times (homo stuff mostly)

4. Top 3 HBO show with The Wire and The Sopranos.

5. Writing/Acting are flawless.

It's A great series. Pretty much all the characters have their own secrets, which make for interesting reveals throughout the series run.

Another note: I thought the last season was easily the best.

It's the most realistic series I've seen from a "life" perspective. No one is perfect and there are ups and downs in everything. But of course you never want your family to be similar to the Fisher's.

Thank god we don't have families like theirs.

I think most people would commit suicide if they had Ruth, Brenda, Billy and Lisa in their lives.

Six Feet Under should ruin Dexter for you by watching Michael C. Hall have actual well written material to work with.

Pretty much the feeling I had watching Dexter go to absolute dogshit. Just kept thinking "how is it this possible for him to be this bad?".

Anywho, one of my Top 10 favorite shows. As others have said, the absolutely most perfect finale and so very satisfying (not often you can say that these days). Lots of character building and depth. There are times you absolutely hate characters, but love the complexity.

You will hate every single character for most of the show. But it's a great series. It's a top 5 HBO series for me.

Well, the most redeeming characters aren't the ones you would think after the first few seasons.

God, Russell. Add that douche to the list of characters I hated. Along with Claire's first boyfriend.

You mentioning Russell reminds me that you have to tolerate a bunch of yuppy liberal stuff in watching this show. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just a thought.

I had to go back and look at the cast list just now but the only characters I don't recall totally hating at some point:
Nikolai
Rainn Wilson's character
