To break my new topic cherry, I present to the OB an event that brings us back to good ole French traditions. It's called the Louisiana Tournoi . It's a ring jousting tournament held in conjunction with the LA Cotton Festival. You can read all about the history in the link.

I've ridden in it for the past 6 years, however I'm taking the year off this year. If any of you are in the Ville Platte area this Sunday, it's a great event to go watch.

I havent been in a few years. Fun to go and have a few beers and watch. I typically know 80% or so of the men riding in it.

Why not real armor? The tin foil looks terrible.

It's not tin foil, just some cheap shiny material on the shirt and hat. Funny side note: the Tournoi riders are "defending the honor of cotton by fighting against the 7 evils of cotton" however the shirt and hat are not cotton.

There's no real armor because we're not professional jousters, just a bunch country boys that like to drink beer, ride horses and compete at high speeds. Neither the horses or the riders would tolerate real armor well when it's usually close to 100 degrees around here.

Did anyone in Evangeline Parish plant cotton this year? I figure if so, it must have been around the village of St. Landry.

None in this area for years.
