Is this a bad time of year to lay sod?

No, the roots will grow through the winter, just no growth on top. This is also a great time of year for planting trees and shrubs...

St. Augustine if you have shade, Centipede if you don't.

I wouldn't wait around much longer, sod needs lots of water daily for the first 3-4 weeks, if we catch a good early frost after you have watered it could kill the grass. At least that is what the sod guy told me a couple years ago when we were building our house.

How much do you like to work on your yard?

St Aug and Centipede are more maintenance friendly. Zoisia and bermuda require more maintenance.

All can look good.

Good time for it. Go rent a sod cutter and come cut out my entire front yard. I'm tired of grass.

Sorry to hijack. When is a good time to fertilize ? I have st aug sod. Just moved in to the house. Sod is a couple years old and never been fertilized.

Not now, wait till spring and after the grass turns green put out a variety specific fertilizer

Isn't it best to fertilize a couple times a year?
