The timeline makes sense but they better start advertising that early and often bc it will be an issue.

I hope this screws as many Dem/socialist/Obama voters as hard as it possibly can.

Thats a hell of a plan.

1. you will be fined if you don't sign up
2. Make sure the web site to sign up doesn't work well
3.????
4.IRS profit

This is a classic charlie foxtrot. It is amazing to me that after all of this time they seem to be completely unprepared for the implementation of the ACA.

You know, with all the glitches, one would think Obama would take advantage of this as a face-saving opportunity to compromise with the GOP and push the whole damn thing back a year.

Hubris is an ugly thing.

So what happens if you qualify for free healthcare, you don't earn enough income to pay taxes and you don't sign up?

re: ACA deadline changed

quote:

Those who want to sign up for Obamacare will have to do so by around Valentine’s Day in order to avoid tax penalties, roughly six weeks ahead of the March 31 deadline originally stated.

The currently uninsured will need to be covered by March 31 in order to avoid tax penalties but in order to accomplish that, signups must be completed by around mid-February and coverage would then be initiated by March 1.

Originally reported by Associated Press, the news service cites Jackson Hewitt Tax Service and an unnamed official with President Barack Obama’s administration as the sources for the newest wrinkle in what is formally known as the Affordable Care Act.

That was confirmed to MarketWatch by IRS officials, who say that in order to avoid tax penalties, individuals can only go without health coverage for less than three consecutive months.

Ok, I understand for reporting purposes... But either way, the law says by the 31st, so if someone signs up on the 29th, I don't see how they could pay any penalty if a lawyer got involved.

I can't wait until they tell of these contract shipyard and plant workers that they have to pay a fine.

Pardon me but the law was enacted in 2010. Its only been a wait of four years. No way should implementation be delayed one minute longer !

You are either posting in the wrong thread or have terrible reading comprehension.

Anytime you have to get a lawyer involved to make the government obey laws it created is a shame.

then you should qualify for medicaid

and you don't sign up?

my understanding is their only enforcement vehicle is fines through taxes and tax returns, so presumably nothing.
however ive read if you fall in the gap between medicaid and a subsidy then you will not be fined.

now how they created said gap is a really good question.

Agree 100% and they should have their lawyer fees covered...

My point is that there is no way they can hold a penalty over someone if they can prove they had healthcare prior to the deadline of the 31st. Its their problem that for reporting purposes, they didn't think ahead.

They need to be covered by March 31st. Coverage begins on the 1st of each month, not in the middle. Thus, their coverage would have to begin by March 1st to be covered on March 31st. In order for coverage to begin on March 1st, paperwork has to be processed so they are saying it must be submitted by February 15th.

All of this is very standard for business coverage except that I never had a problem getting paperwork processed in 1-2 days for the 1st of next month if an employee started late in the prior month. It would likely be a problem if I had thousands to process in several days, though.

Completing paperwork isn't the same as having coverage. Info needs to be checked before going forward. It's not unreasonable and is standard practice now for most companies. They haven't done a good job of informing people about this, though and should have used the 2/15 deadline instead of 3/31 deadline in advertising.

Do you know if when you sign up, is your bank acct details also given? Figured they would do what the IRS does for many contract workers and just take it out via withdrawal.

The whole thing was a travesty even before HHS screwed it up further.

Now it appears taxpayers who comply with the 3/2014 deadline for Obamacare, may yet still be subjected to Obamacare tax penalties. Well afterall, we had to pass it to see what was in it.

Creepy Uncle Sam says "hello".

Republican proposals to delay the mess one year would be an ACA lifeline. A delay might be required to save the program. Ironically, Democrat ignorant intransigence has led to a position in which delay of Obamacare for a year would be perceived as a huge TeaParty win. It could provide significant momentum to the movement heading into the 2014 elections.
