Fair Park is one of Dallas' most dangerous areas. Being there in the daytime is bad enough. At night God help you.

You don't want to be in Fair Park after dark.

As others have pointed out, Fair Park is rough at night.

The Dallas Cowboys played in the Cotton Bowl from 1960-1971, and there was violence against fans following night games reported then, and that was 40-50 years ago. It's not hard to imagine what it would be like now.

It use to have lights, I was down there in 2001. Loong ago but still I was there for a night game.

I didn't think the lights were that great were they? I thought one of the issues (besides ghetto, drunk fans etc) was that the lights aren't up to par for televised game.

It's either regional 2:30 or national 11 each year. Looks like the whole country will see Mack's last butt raping by Stoops.

I've been to the state fair and a concert at the ampitheater in dallas at night... at no time did I even feel the slightest bit threatened. Cops are everywhere. Way less intimidating than leaving Legion Field at night.

granted, a football game may be different.

A lot of traditional rivalries don't like to change the time of their games. OSU/Michigan is almost always the noon game too (was 3:30 in 2006). I think Urban wants to move it to a more primetime like slot, but not sure the schools/historians will go for it

I don't know where this RRR crap started but I'll forever call this game the Red River Shootout.

Someone from the DFW area can confirm it, but I don't think the stadium has lights.

But even if that's true, they could bring them in for a game like Ohio State does whenever we have night games. I've always wondered why this game was so early in the day too. I assumed it was to keep the fans from having enough time to get overly loaded before the game(thus avoiding a lot of conflict between fan bases).

Is there any chance of RRR being moved to Cowboys Stadium? THe lease on the CB ends in 2015...

Cotton Bowl has had lights forever. It's just "tradition" to play the RRS during the day. There are games and concerts in fair park at night and its safe enough.

If they ever move it to Jerryworld it'll be just another game. The fair and unique setting makes the game special. But all good things end eventually....

Has zero to do with it. The State Fair lasts for about a month. It is open late every night.

I think tradition is the reason.

And that's coming from an Aggie of all people

I don't even know where the "rivalry" crap started. "Shootout" is just such a better moniker--tired of the PC bullshite on the matter.

If we can have the Border War and the Civil War, then a fricking Shootout shouldn't be a problem

I hate the name Red River Rivalry. I can't even say it without getting tongue twisted. It will always be the shoot out.
