It would be easier for you to name it and I say yes/no.

Or read my post history on the board.

No. It was the same appeal to punk bands or the rave culture. It's the scene. I don't think that's a bad thing at all. But jam bands foster a sense of belonging in the fan base. If anything, that's a positive thing. but I can see why you're so defensive about not being special. No one likes their clique to be analyzed.

A couple of us have already proved this theory of yours wrong. I have never been to a grateful dead show and they're one of my favorite bands. I'm certainly not in it for the "tribe".

I've seen Widespread Panic tons of times but I don't identify with most of the people that go to those shows. I'm not a wookie yet I've traveled all over the country to see that band without ever becoming a member of the "tribe"

Can we declare a rule that if you shite on someone's music, you have to declare your love for another band? This would give people the opportunity to shite on something you like and would discourage the douche-bag "everything sucks" posts.

You really haven't. In fact, looking at this board, the social benefits of identifying with a particular "tribe" is constantly reinforced. The behavior and postings patterns of the members of this board actually reinforce my theory. Which isn't really my theory.

And of course not every single person is in it for the same precise reason. we're talking in global sense (though I think you're far more in the tribe than you think -- you didn't see the Dead because you're the wrong generation). And jam bands' enduring popularity has very much to do with its tribal aspects. Same with most kinds of pop music. It's not a bad thing.

But people rail against it because we all want to think we are unique little snowflakes. Which isn't hurting anybody, so go on ahead.

Hmmm Chicago I guess. Not nearly as far as a lot of people but considered insane by people who don't like jam bands

Easy. I just don't like his stuff. How can you think he's the GOAT? He's not even the best from the East Coast.

Could it be the nature of the fans themselves? Fundamentalist religions also have extremely dedicated followers.
