Which is better? I know everyone here loves all the BBC shows so I'm sure everyone will say Sherlock. Any reasons as to which one is better? I've never seen either

No comparison at all. Sherlock is one of the best shows made to date. Elementary is difficult to watch, and painful after seeing sherlock.

Sherlock is amazing. It helps that each episode is more like a movie.

I haven't seen Sherlock, but Elementary is nothing more than a solid crime show. I've seen a few episodes. While I was moderately amused, it isn't the type of show that I would make the point of going out of my way for. I don't think that there is really anything about it that sets it apart.

Each is 90 or so minutes and feels like a self-contained movie in terms of quality.

Sherlock is extremely well written and wonderfully acted. It's a great adaptation of Holmes. The casting is almost perfect.

Elementary is a typical CBS show. There's nothing great about it. It aims to be good but not spectacular and is successful, just like every other CBS show. It's empty fodder though.

There's really no comparison between the two

Sherlock by a pretty huge margin

Elementary is just a re-packaged CSI or whatever bullshite crime show they have on the networks these days

Sherlock is a far more accurate representation of the characters Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote about in his novels. Not only that, but everyone is perfectly cast and the chemistry between the two leads is far superior to the CBS version.

Elementary is simply a glorified CSI carbon copy.

There is no comparison. Sherlock is superior to pretty much anything at all.

Episode 4 is one of the best episodes of anything ever.

Sherlock is way way way better. I still like Elementary though. Lucy Lui gives me a boner.

Episode 4 of Sherlock is great until the cheesy ending.

I love Episode 5 "The Hounds of the Baskervilles"--really f-ing scary--Great for Halloween!

Overall, all six episodes are brilliant, just brilliant. Episode 3 is prob my fave.

Episode four is easily the worst one IMHO. The ending is terrible

I feel like they don't really compare very well. Sherlock is made for a British/International audience based, pretty faithfully, off of the original Doyle model. They operate in Great Britain and they are both straight up British. Their mannerisms and actions are specifically tailored for a British audience which pretty much automatically makes it a smarter series. Cumberbatch is unstoppable and Freeman is perfect.

Elementary is Sherlock if he operated in New York with an American partner as an ex-drug addict. It is an American show made for a rapidly decreasing IQ's of the American audience. Its as smart as it can be given that its on CBS. I personally like Johnnie Lee Miller's portrayal because I feel like he has needed a vehicle for years and I am glad he found one. I don't care much for Liu's portrayal of Watson or the show's portrayal of Moriarty.

Sherlock is the better show. It is the story of Sherlock Holmes told in modern times. Elementary is a Sherlock Holmes character, almost like historical fiction told in that universe and I think that is main distinction. So to me, the shows aren't really comparable.
