Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this is the first time in program history that LSU has given up over 400 yards of offense in three consecutive weeks.

Kudos for being 2-1 in that stretch.

That said, Texas A&M might have 800 yards of offense against us.

Through 5 games LSU had the 5th ranked defense in the conference by yards/game

Yep we the worst defense in school history and the best offense in school history. So who the FRICK knows what will happen against Florida this week.

The past 2 weeks shows you the consequences of our defensive problems. Against a marginal-to-good team like State, the stats can be close and we still end up with a blowout. Against a very good offense like UGA, anything can happen. I'm happy for the win, and the way we played in the 2nd half. Not ready yet to call that the new normal, but hopeful.

I find that very, very hard to believe.

And no, I'm not going to bother looking that up, but common sense tells me that this isn't the case.

The most relevant statistic regarding the LSU defense is.......

Mississippi State only punted one time all night.

Given that the goal in a football game is to win, I'd say the most relevant stat regarding the LSU defense is that MSU only scored 3 points in the second half.

Correct. That 1999 defense with poor linebacker play (I recall Lou Tepper wrote the book on Complete Linebacking ) was some of the worst we have ever seen. We won three games that year and lost to Houston Community College.

You don't punt after turnovers, FGs, missed FGs, failed 4th down conversions, and end of halfs....just an FYI

Mississippi State had 3 points in the last 36:28 of the game. In today's game, who cares what they do between the 20's?

Second half: FG, missed FG, downs, INT, fumble, half. When you needed your defense, they got it done.

LINKThis is where we can all look it up. Maybe not "history", but all the stats since 1986.

I'm correcting you because you are wrong

Just one example

The 2001 Nick Saban led defense gave up in consecutive weeks:

448 yards to Tennessee
632 yards to Florida
413 yards to Kentucky

I would say, statistically, it might be the most inexperienced LSU defense in history...

That was a strange year, and more happened off the field/in the locker room than we will ever know.

Struggled with San Jose St. in the opener (not all that unusual), then crushed North Texas 52-0. We took a bad beating from Aubun, 41-7 and were 2-1 going to Athens - we lost @UGA, but it was 23-22.

Then we kept losing through the penultimate game to Houston as you described. Dinardo was fired and we won the season finale, under the direction of interim head coach Hal Hunter, against Arkansas, fairly convincingly, 35-10. Rohan Davey, Reggie Robinson and Rondell Mealy had monster performances in that game.

i'm looking to see our red-zone D improve. think it was ranked around 100, or so.

at this point defensively, maybe we can get some improvement on the margins...folks are going to move on us between the 20's, just limit it to FG's.

And here is how bad the Lou Tepper's defenses here were

In 1998, in consecutive weeks:

410 yards to Idaho
463 yards to Georgia
421 yards to Florida
573 yards to Kentucky

In SEC play that year, they gave up

306 yards to Auburn
463 yards to Georgia
421 yards to Florida
573 yards to Kentucky
285 yards to Moo State
497 yards to Ole Miss
369 yards to BAMA
509 yards to Arkansas

An average of 428 yards per game
