It helps to earn resources faster. Also, at a certain point things get so expensive that you always need tons of resources, and mines and dungeons simply won't get you there before you get raided yourself.

If you are using HB, I would only roll once a day. It gets expensive and you'll need those HB's soon. Gems are the way to go. I would buy a few if I were you.

i have 4 of 5 heroes at lvl 40 so ive been saving my HB to upgrade each one
i have 425 gems, when i get to 450 im gonna burn them and see if I can at least get an elite hero

You might not get one but I found that the 450 rolls netted me the legendaries.

They are pretty rare, and I think they are impossible to get with HB. I think I have spent 4050 gems and I got 4 legend heroes (3 unique, 1 dupe).

Ive spent some money on it, but i have been playing for almost 5 months now so i really dont mind throwing a few dollars their way.
