exact same situation. two tests this week

just tried to see this at 4:30 in imax. to my surprise the film was sold out.

word of mouth for this thing must be outstanding. headed to see it in an hour.

As far as realism goes, it's in the Armageddon ballpark. You haven't even seen it yet, so I can't wait for your half-assed retort.

Director turned the criticism that special effects have destroyed plot and dialogue on its head. Acting and dialogue are stripped to their essence and take place in an arena so overwhelming that the audience cannot help but hang on to the characters for dear life. It is a very, very good movie that grabs you by the throat and does not let go. Just one man's opinion though.

In summary, aside from a few nitpicks here and there, they both agree Alfonso Cuaron did an incredible job of simulating the physics and dangers of spaceflight. And Tom Jones even admits that every nightmare scenario that occurs to Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in the film is possible. They probably wouldn't happen all at once like they do in this particular film, but certain liberties always have to be taken when doing a disaster movie such as this.

Buzz Aldrin was the second man to walk on the Moon and spent quite a bit of time outside the spacecraft on Gemini XII.

Tom Jones is one of the most traveled men in the history of spaceflight and has been outside the spacecraft many, many times. I'm pretty sure what they have to say is very difficult to refute.

Not to mention the fact Cuaron had a current NASA astronaut ADVISING him in pre-production.

The movie's physics aren't perfect and they can't be because you wouldn't be able to tell a story at all. But to say Gravity is on par with Armageddon in terms of its realism is incredibly asinine.

I really enjoyed it. It was more of a great experience than a great movie though. More so than any movie I have ever seen, I really felt like I was there. Short of breath and all. 3 out of 4 of us that went to the movie had dreams of being in space that night. Definitely recommend going to see it in the theater.

The only thing any of them have criticized in terms of not being realistic is the position of the Hubble Space Telescope in relation to ISS and the Chinese Space Laboratory. They also have talked about how the jet pack couldn't possibly have enough fuel or power to make the orbital corrections it makes in the film. And all of them acknowledge the filmmakers had to do these things in order to better serve the story.
