So I just watched the new one, it was funny, but it wasn't epic. I feel like that's been South Park the last few seasons, funny episodes, but not "epic" episodes like the old days.
I was thinking about it and I think it's because they try too much to make fun of the current issues and make the episodes around what is going on in the world. In the past it felt more like they made episodes based off of a story and then made fun of current events where it made sense.

When I think of all the truly epic South Park episodes like "World of Warcraft, "Lemmiwinks" "Imagination Land" "MechaStreisand", the two after the movie, and many others..... They aren't designed around current events, rather they have a story and they put current events in where they make sense.

I wish they would get back to that, it's the main thing missing from South Park right now, IMO. That said the show is still great most of the time

I'll relay this to Matt and Trey.

Thank you for your input.

Well, I look at it like this:

Each character on South Park represents a piece of the cylse of "human-ness." Stan, the unwavering moral foundation. Kyle, the search for knowledge and existence. Cartman, the unshackled human drive. Kenny, the voice of reason that we often can't understand.

This is most apparent in...

Ok I quit.

My friend and I were saying the same thing. I miss the kids just being kids.

This is true. Some of the best episodes are when it's just a story they are telling, like the Lord of the Rings episode and the episode where Randy keeps getting in fights at the baseball games.

Whether their episode has a "message" or not has little bearing on the quality IMO. They've had great episodes and bad episodes that deal with topical issues and have a message. They've had great episodes and bad episodes that are just random and don't pertain to topical issues

I literally agree with every single thing you have said. It's still really funny, but not like it was in its prime. And your reasons are why that's so.

While true, I think when they focus the episode around a story they have a better success rate than when they focus an episode around a current event. Sometimes they have an episode focused around a story that is filled with references to current events, and those are great
