Is it legal to hunt over corn in Mississippi (private land)? I keep hearing different things. I have heard only allowed with a feeder, or you have to be so many yards away....

Thanks.

I don't hunt there but people I know who live there say it's illegal.

the corn must be 100 yards away and out of your line of sight. In other words you can bulldoze a pile of mud up in your food plot 100 yards away and you will be OK. On another note I believ the fine is only $50 or $75 bucks for hunting directly over corn so many people don't worry about the guidelines.

You can have feeders, however you can't hunt directly over them. I think your feeder can't be within so many yards OR in your direct line of sight. Check the website or hunting booklet for exact regs.

It's freaking ridiculous. Personally, I hate hunting over feeders but I just wish they would simplify the law. Either make it YES or NO, not all these extra complications.

I actually asked a warden once and he said if you bulldoze a pile of mud up 100yds away from your stand and put the corn behind it you are 100% legal. Pretty funny and I actually thought about doing it once but I figured it was too much work for nothing.

live and hunt in ms
yes it is legal

BUT

has to be in a feeder "which is 100yards away from your stand" "and also out of the line of sight of your stand" so a tree or bush has to be in front of it"
and it cant be poured or piled or placed directly on ground

Coloring the corn is the easy way out. The corn needs to be dark through and through. Once the animals start eating the corn it would be visible if not dark all the way through

This is correct but as a practical matter they really dont give a shite unless it is barney fife green jeans. just dont shoot right over it, at least try to hide it. If you are hunting with kids during youth hunt on private land, do whatever you need to do to turn those youngsters into deer hunters. Deer are over running the state.

My next door neighbor is Mr. Greenjeans himself. He said it is illegal to hunt within sight of a pile or corn used to bait deer. ><> del

It cannot be poured on the ground, and cannot be in line of sight and must be at least 100yards out. The ticket for baiting cost me just over $200 a few years ago. GW said my trophy rock was illegal cause I could carry it in and out. Salt licks are legal now.
