Whose fault is the shutdown?

In most of the major news sources it is being reported that the republicans are shutting down the government unless obamacare gets stopped.

However, others are saying it is both parties fault.

A few are saying the republicans want to discuss the situation with the democrats, but Harry Reid just says no discussion, you pass what we say.

So, unless the only issue the repblicans have is that they want to shut down obamacare or they will not agree to anything, well, honestly, it will not end well for them.

If they both suck, well then everyone will hate them more.

If it is the third, and Reid demands nothing but a total victory, then, if it is reported and picked up, the dems may just look bad.

What is going on here. I am sorry but I have been working rather hard last month or so and have had no time to keep up.

From the little I have gathered, the Republicans are using this as an attempt to defund Obamacare. They are attempting to pass single funding bills for individual services so that the ACA can be singled out.

Reid will have none of that since it doesn't help the Democratic Party politically.

Politics as usual.

That bolded part won't happen.

The Republicans will take the brunt of the blame.

This is objectively true, however

this never gets reported. Harry Reid never misses an opportunity to inject pure venom into the legislative process. He hasn't been called out on it before in any meaningful way and knows that he won't be this time, either.

He wanted nothing more than this shut down. If he had any desire whatsoever to avoid it, he would have schedule negotiations much earlier. That was never his intent. He knows exactly how it will look to the casual observer.

For the life of me ... I cannot understand why anyone would vote for Harry Reid.

That is one sorry-ass excuse for a human being.

Douchebag Hall of Fame and perhaps GOAT.

But I am sure this board has 1000 reasons to vote for Bachman of Cruz.

He was ripe for the picking until the purity caucus nominated a mouth breather. He was extraordinarily unpopular but the opposition was out of bizarro world.

Whose fault is it that so many Americans feel a temporary government shutdown is a total catastrophe?

You mean who gets the credit? Why is it a bad thing to trim the fat and close non-essential government bureaucracies down? Shoulda done this years ago.

The Republicans are using the operation of government as the thing Democrats gain in "compromise." From their view, GOP gains Obamacare extension and DEM gains government operation.

Doesn't look like a compromise to me considering the government should function regardless. If you don't think that is exactly what is going on, ask yourself: Why didn't the house pass a simple bill to keep the government funded?

The House is trying to fund the govt line by line which is the way to do it.

Reid and the dems will have none of it.

They are at fault and we should keep the shut down going as long as it takes to fix this country.

It's the US citizen's fault ultimately. I know many here get off on blaming the two main parties, but really our fault.

I have not posted it but, "constitutional crisis" has come into my mind.

Art. 1, section 7 is "the law of the land" after all; power of the purse and all.
