Planning on beating it down I10 to I55 in Hammond
and North. Any one have suggestions on alternates or must stops to eat etc.? Leaving on Friday early and staying in Starkville. Thanks

I would do 10 east to 171 up to Shreveport then 20 east to 55 north

Why in the hell would you go to Shreveport?

Go 10 East to 12 to 55 up to Jackson. Once in Jackson take Lakeland Dr. (I think it's state hwy 25) almost all the way to Starkville. 55 should have no traffic.

Outside of BR, the only "big" city you hit is Jackson. There are some decent places to eat in Jackson depending on what you want. Not much else to see/do though. Also, this is State's first home SEC game, so it might be a little more fun in Starkville than usual

I checked google maps, and it said you should fly.

j/k, I really despise I-10 and avoid it at all cost, but it looks like the best, quickest way to go. But you can get really creative based on how much time you have to get there. Plenty of ways to get up to I-20, even before you get to LA.

This. And say "hi" to Mom when you pass the airport exit just north of Carthage, Ms.

Or take 1-10 to BR, then 12 to Slidell and take 1-59 to Meridan then U.S. 45 north to Starkville. No major traffic areas.

Take the interstates as directed to Jackson. After that, you're on your own. Good luck.

You can take 55 north thru Jackson up to US 82 and it takes you right to Starkville. If you take Lakeland in Jackson to Hwy. 25, it is one light after the other for about 10 miles and can be rough.

I've gone Houston to Starkville three times - by far the best was the last trip (HOU-JAN and rent a car) but have also done:

59: 79 in Carthage: I-20 Shreveport to Meridian, MS: 45 (first trip/longest) and
I-10: I-55: 12.

Stayed in Philadelphia last 2 times. Hotels in Starkville are holes and things in Philly stay open past 10 p.m. and, of course, there's the Pearl River Resort.

the route you describe is a good one...be cognizant of the times that you will hit the larger cities, though as you don't want to hit br or jackson at rush hour...

depending on the traffic and the timing, you may want to take I-12 to cut a few miles off...also, if you happen to hit Jackson at rush hour, just hit I-220 and go around the city taking I55 to hwy 82 instead of lakeland (25)

Mississippi has a much better state highway system than LA, so you can go pretty fast on them...watch your speed, though as there will be a few troopers out snagging some gameday $...

if you have questions, just post and I will do my best to answer them...
