Mettenberger wouldn’t have cracked anyone’s Heisman rankings prior to his resurgence this season. In his first year as a starter in 2012, Mettenberger tossed 12 touchdowns but also threw seven interceptions and completed just 58.8 percent of his passes while the Tigers’ offense finished near the bottom of the SEC.
But, as he showed in a wild loss to Georgia, it’s a whole new Mettenberger in 2013. The senior notched season-highs in completions (23), attempts (37) and passing yards (372) while finding the end zone three times. He has thrown just one interception this season, against 13 touchdown passes; through five games in 2012, he’d thrown for only six touchdowns.
Of course, Mettenberger and LSU didn’t escape Athens with a win, and his detractors could point to the quarterback’s inability to put the Tigers in scoring position on their last drive, with Georgia clinging to a three-point lead. But Mettenberger has plenty of chances to boost his Heisman profile, including games against Florida, Texas A&M and an intriguing clash with Alabama on Nov. 9 in Tuscaloosa. The quarterback also has a personal narrative to build on: The Bulldogs dismissed him in 2010 when he ran into legal troubles, after which attended Butler (Kan.) Community College for a year before signing to play for LSU.

If he keeps this pace up and leads us to no more than one more loss, I think he has a great shot. IMO voters will take any excuse to give it to someone else besides JF. Considering how anemic our offense has been and how explosive and consistent he is this year, it's really incredible.

Yeah Losing that game doesn't really give him a chance. However, he still has two chances if LSU were to win out and beat Bama in Tuscaloosa and the reigning Heisman in Baton Rouge.

4 out of the last 6 Heisman trophy winners had AT LEAST 1 loss and all 4 of them were quarterbacks. Losing a game does not take him out of consideration.

Exactly. That performance will launch Mett into possible Heisman talks and will launch him in to being talked about as a first rounder. If Mett continues to play at this level he might very well be the first quarterback taken in this class with his frame and arm strength - and this is an INCREDIBLE quarterback class.

Pardon the reality check... it doesn't matter how well he plays this year. He will not be voted Heisman because that would require extensive TV explanations about his past, which is so politically incorrect as to make him an untouchable.
Today environment, where even just verbal "harassment" of females is considered a crime requiring firing from career, noone convicted of a sexual "crime" will be given the benefit of the doubt.
Evidence? The twists and turns and agonies of the announcers during the telecast when dealing with this was painful to behold. It would have been better if he had been a drug dealer than to have grabbed the appendages of that coed.
Today environment, where even just verbal "harassment" of females is considered a crime requiring firing from career, noone convicted of a sexual "crime" will be given the benefit of the doubt.

Even though your post is pretty stupid, I will just say that no one in here said he would WIN the Heisman trophy, but rather be in the discussion. There is a big difference between winning the Heisman trophy and being in the discussions in the middle of the season.

bullshite. People love a good comeback story. In fact, I think an argument could be made that he will get more recognition because of his past. His legal troubles were 4 years ago. Plus, our schedule provides him more opportunities than anyone else to showcase his talent on the big stage. And people saying that the loss to UGA killed his chances don't know what they're talking about. It was his performance in that loss that got him in the mix. And what about the last few Heisman winners? JFF had a loss last year and RG3 had 2 or 3 losses before that. Mark my words, if he keeps his current pace against our schedule and we win out he will definitely go to NY and will probably win because he will have beaten all the other candidates (Murray, JFF, A.J.) head to head and will have comparable stats against stiffer competition. Even if we lose 1 more he probably still makes the trip to NY.
