The criticism of Freak has been harsh so I wanted to see if it was in fact warranted. What I gathered from watching just the UGA possessions for the 1st half:

a) Freak has a great first step but has a tendency to turn his body and favor his injured arm. He basically gives up all the ground he's gained.

b) Yes - he gets doubled a lot. When he doesn't he usually wins the battle. Unless I see something in the 2nd half review to change my mind, I think this guy is a player. Needs to get healthy.

c) We did blitz some and ran some stunts but UGA's plan was short, quick passes.

d) Unsung play of the game was on UGA's last possession of the 1st half. We kick-off and they start on their own 18 with 3.5+ on the clock. After Murray fumbles the snap on 2nd down, they have 3rd and 7 from their 21. We get pressure, Murray scrambles (no real chance to run for it), throws back across his body for the first down. Simply a great play on his part. Had we held'em there. We would have got the ball back in good field pos'n with 2+ minutes on the clock. Plus we were getting the ball back to start the 2nd half.

e) Mills PI in the EZ was bad. Had he turned around and found the ball an easy int.

f) A couple of plays that are telling: 1) 13:33 youtube mark, Welter appears to read the play, and should have hit Gurley 3 yds behind the LOS. Instead he whiffs. It's unclear to me how he completely whiffed (don't take my word; watch it and see for yourself). Meanwhile, Ego is getting blocked 3 yds downfield. Kwon is slow reading the play. 2) UGA's 1st score. Loston is in man coverage and forces the slot guy to the outside. It's basically, can Murray throw an uncontested 5 and out? IMO, this was on Chief.

LSU-UGA '13
- Note: for whatever reasons there are some "missing" plays in the youtube just prior to Gurley's' injury.

He doesn't look as bad as people say. It's more overreaction because we didn't pressure the QB at all. Hopefully we can rest him all of Furman and the bye week to get him healthy for the last stretch. Right now, him and Ego are the only ones we can count on in the inside.

U must didn't see Rasco lose contain in your 1st half review. For some reason he tried to jump inside instead of keeping contain and completely got washed out. Once Murry decided to roll out he had all day to make that throw.

This is mindboggling. We've recruited big names there, so either poor evaluation or no development.

If he's hurt rotate him out more. He's only doubled about half the time or less. I recorded the game and have watched it again as well. Saying UGA threw quick passes is complete BS. Murray had over 4-5 seconds on many drop backs. Freak is undersized at defensive tackle. He's. a tweener. Tyson Jackson was a tweener who excelled at defensive end. Rascal isn't pulling his weight at defensive end so I'd like to see freak tried there. Firman would be perfect opportunity for this. Get a bigger body next to ego to plug the hole. It's not all on freak. Our linebackers can't get off blocks and often whiff. Secondary is awful as well but that's another conversation.

Not his fault he plays in a 3 man DT rotation.

Since when is 6'3 298 a tweener for a DT in a 4-3?

One of about a dozen times so far this year. He gets caught inside alot. Amazes me how a priciple taught to pee-wee football players of not losing contain on outside is lost on college players.

Define Whiffs?

Pretty positive he made the tackle on that play... Looked like he read the play, filled the hole, and worked back inside instead of up the field past the line of scrimmage (thus preventing an easy cutback) and made the hit. That's pretty textbook LB play slappy, get use to it.

Don't think you would know what to look for if you were paid to... Coach Egg

Chief has forgotten more about football than you will ever know. Ill go ahead and trust him when it comes to LB's. DB's however I just don't know anymore...

that play just looked like they were afraid gurley was gonna make a cut on them or something. Either that or they were thinking playaction. Either way, it's as if all the linebackers hesitated on that play. Hell, Welter was left unblocked. Weird.

agreed

I think they were more worried about forcing him back to all the help inside rather than risk him bouncing one and housing it
