On GA's last drive, we didn't blitz. But on our last drive, GA did blitz. Murray had all day. Mett was rushed. I thought this made the difference at the end.

What do y'all thin?

Idk why our defense has slowly reduced out blitzing. It's been going on for some time. Not just the past year.

I think we needed a lot less blitzing with our incredible Dline the past 2 years. I just wonder if we need more blitzing now.

We are used to having corners and safetys that can lock down the backfield freeing up folks to send in to blitz...this year, our defensive backfield cannot cover one-on-one, so we have to use those extra folks to cover receivers instead of blitzing....

Even when we showed blitz half the time they would drop back into coverage. Every time they showed blitz GA was probably like frick it they ain't coming. But in all seriousness I think we are going to have to blitz more. If nothing more than to get our LBs in the gaps instead of laying on their backs or fighting a lineman 6-7yds down field.

I think the difference was LSU didn't have the option to run the ball or use the middle of the field due to the clock and no time outs.

I saw that too and wondered why. Hannigrif and Detillier in the post game show discussed this a lot too. Apparently LSU blitzed to a degree all game and was completely ineffective. No sacks and NO (zero) hurries. This probably had something to do with the last drive defense calls but toward the end I would have brought the house and hoped for a bad throw or a pick.

Apparently our LB's are not good at shedding blocks and our DB's tip their hand way too early and are picked off in the pass protection...

One other thing I should add to the anemic pass rush and that is lack of depth on D-Line. In the 4th qtr they are gassed and getting no penetration. Fresh horses would help relieve that but apparently we do not have any we trust.

Chavis knows his team is slow. He does not trust their speed, so he is laying back in coverage and hoping that some of these guys remember their assignments in the heat of the battle. So far, it is going very poorly.

I agree with this to a certain extent. But I don't see us getting many coverage sacks either and they're still getting burned so might as well try to hurry the qb.

All good points. I can understand the corners needing help, but the blown coverages concerned me the most. Not much could be done about the time we got the ball.

Time outs have been a problem for a while. When we started using time outs in the early 2nd half, Danielson commented that we might regret it at the end of the game.

It could be that our personnel doesn't fit the blitz package. On second thought, our personnel doesn't fit the Mustang (prevent) defense either.

I can't really remember why we called the earlier timeouts, but I didn't remember being super pissed about it because it had to be done if I remember. It would have been nice to have had an extra one though.

It would have been great to be able to run a screen or something, but it would have been super risky with no time outs and the time left in the game.

Only weakness Mettenberger has is that he is a statue in the pocket. Can't run at all. Once the pressure arrives he's pretty much sacked. Murray can run and did twice on the few times LSU got pressure on him. But Chavis does not blitz regularly even when he needs to. Likes to rely on the DLine way too much.

We'll honestly the RBs and Lineman need to pick up blitzes better.

They let the interior defender through instead of leaving the outside guys free. I don't remember them being delayed type blitzes either. It seemed obvious they were coming when they blitzed. You can't really expect any QB to be able to beat pressure right up the middle.

Overall though the offense was excellent that is extreme nitpicking for an overall great performance.

Sayin someone is a statue in the pocket is extreme nit pickin. That's why I hate talkin football on here because most of y'all have never played any organized football in your life. And you need glasses some of those blitzes were delayed like the LB that ran right pass Trai Turners big arse. But the point is if you have RB or whatever else you said back there if they send enough people you aren't gonna stop shite. That's normal football, my point was that Mettenberger just can't take and run off to the sidelines to buy more time to throw because he doesn't have the legs for that. It's no damn nitpickin clown just a fact that they will make sure at the next level he gets good pass protection.

Sorry I was saying I was nitpicking with my opinion they missed a couple of assignments when they still put up 41 points as an offensive unit. Didn't mean to say you were nitpicking his inability to escape pressure in the pocket.

From my viewing angle in the stadium they had several issues with letting pressure up the middle and it didn't appear delayed. It would be the RB or OL picking up outside pressure instead of the inside pressure. The inside guy needs to be priority obviously and it looked like they locked in and picked the wrong guy.

They had pressure come from the outside like you said I just thought it was made worse with the breakdowns with the pressure up the middle. There is no hope for any QB much less Mett to handle that.

Despite not blitzing or the muffed punt LSU still had a chance to win this game. I've already read in some articles that Georgia players made it clear this do not want to see LSU in Atlanta, they scurred!!
