we lost the core; the heart and the soul of the defense to the NFL. all of the kool aid drinkers said that didn't matter and that with our talent we would just reload. well, the guys on the bench always seem to be more talented to some on here.

we lost too much and our new defense is really struggling with good to great offenses. the fact is that our D isn't as bad as it looked saturday nor as good as it looked against UAB or Kent state. we still could have won that game against unargueably the best offense in the conference.

the scariest thing to me is that if we are one score up aginst anybody late in the fourth we will probably have to depend on them fricking up to avoid overtime.

but if we don't have OL, WR, or QB injuries we still have a very good chance at a BCS bowl.

Very few people said this BTW.

To paraphrase Herm Edwards, "You blitz to win the game. You BLITZ to win the game."

I truly hope the Chief doesn't mail-in another crappy, listless defensive gameplan the rest of this season. Once is enough.

So most of those people who said we would go undefeated said that thinking we'd have a stellar defense?

I do wish we would've seen more blitzes - especially on 3rd and long.........of which UGA had plenty.

i'll bet i read that over 100 times on this very board. add to it, "chavis is the best; we will have a great defense" and add another 100. i saw only a small minority that even acknowledged we could have a rough go of it. yes, many said it would take a few games but few would owe up to what we have seen. look, i understand pre season optimism. it is you trying to make this a pissing contest. my whole purpose is to state what should have been the obvious; LSU's defense is playing in the NFL.

We went up against the best offense the SEC has to offer and were within 3 pts of beating them on their own turf.

Say what you will, but this offense will bail our defense out in some close games. I still fully expect us to run the table en route to an SECCG bid. And while I think that a NC appearance is now out of reach (nobody is beating Oregon or Ohio State this year), we will take care of business the rest of the way.

I've seen that mantra on here as well. I think mostly it was blind trust in Chief, or maybe just arrogance that led to the belief that we'd absorb the losses again (i.e. Sheppard, Nevis, Peterson) and dominate.

Fact is that we haven't seen these type of personnel losses since 2008, but I still have faith that this defense can make enough stops to let our offense dictate the game.

Oh, well, if you're only reading the Rant! Carry on.

Thankfully the only offenses left that scare me are OM, aTm, and Bama and LSU can out score at least two of those I hope.

We cant blitz like we have in the past, simply because our DB's are struggling bad bad and we don't have 10 guys playing/rotating in on the DL like we are accustomed to

This is where I am. I'm taking a wait and see what develops approach. We lost a lot of talent, and while I do believe that we just "reload" in most positions with talent, it takes time to gel. While I doubt we will have a dominant, opposing defense at any point this season, I think we can get better. A&M, Bama, Florida and Ole Miss will still be difficult games.

Agree 100%. You have to help your young defense out. You can't allow the QB to sit back and have all day to throw. I know the DL has to put pressure but they weren't so make some pressure. Run a man to man on the outside and bring the house. Give the QB a quick second to make a decision and hope the CB's can hold for a sec

The defense sucked midway through the season last year too.
