Imperial No Plow seed mix results?
Posted by tigamike on 9/30/13 at 8:24 am00
Anybody used this? I got my hands on about 4 bags of it (enough for about 5 acres or so) and planted three of my food plots with it. I prepped the ground like I normally do for regular plantings (disced 2-3 times to no weed conditions and fertilized) but just didn't till or cultipack the seed in the soil after I broadcast it.
Hoping for good results and a plot the deer like. Anybody use this mix? Deer like it? Comes in good and has durability?
Gonna do the rest of my plots with the normal game mix seed I usually use.

Did you look at the breakdown on what seeds are in it? I haven't looked, but with it being "no plow", I bet most of it is rye grass.

We use it for some of our plots that dont get as much sun, or dont dry up alot. It works really well. Gets green very quickly and the deer seem to like it when mixed with some lime

To my recollection it's like:
25% rye
25% clover (3 diff kinds)
25% rape (2 kinds)
7% radish / lettuce
18% coatings / inert matter / other

I will say this! In the spot where I washed out my seeder there was a little bit of seed that was stuck in the bottom of the seeder that got washed out. Went back about an hour and a half later to unhook the seeder and noticed that some of the seed had actually already began to take root and open up! It wasn't the rye. It was one of the broadleaf seeds. Could see two tiny leaves sprouting from the seed and the roots had dug in about 1/8 inch already!

I believe the first to come up is some clover. We planted wednesday, by sunday clover was sprouting everywhere

It was hard for me to fathom as well but I swear it's the truth. If I'm lying I hope I miss a 20 yard shot on a P&Y buck!
