People keep talking about adjustments on Defense

Personally I think it's more about the lack of experience/talent.
I don't see any gamebreakers on defense. Our defensive ends can't get a pass rush & our linebackers can't diagnose a play.
This will be the story most of the year vs teams with good offenses. We have to hope to score often and not turn it over.

It's a talent issue you are correct we have zero play makers on defense

Great defenses all start in the trenches. Right now, we can't stop the run or rush the passer with our front four

There are no adjustments to be made when your safeties dont even know what their assignments are. We knew at some point, we would be hurt by the inexperience. I just didnt think it would be this bad.

We don't have a defensive "QB" recognizing offensive formations like we did last year with Minter and Reid.
Our LB's and DB's are easily fooled by good offensive play calling.

lack of experience
It is mostly this. I actually saw some improvements with the defense in this game vs the last 3 games. We just played a high octane offense that would execute effectively on any defense in the country.
We lack talent at LB. In Chavis' system we should be recruting LB's out the arse. It's the most important position in his scheme IMO. He has to have superstar LB's.

there is plenty of talent on the field, most of it is inexperienced and the team obviously doesn't have a couple of great, experienced leaders on the field. Unless you play as a unit, and fully understand and execute your responsibility, a QB like Murray will make you look like a no-talent bum. In reality, many of Georgia's big plays were blown assignments/confusion.

The whole reason people want the adjustments is because we don't have the talent and experience to run our normal defensive schemes. Can't force these less talented players to do the same thing that the All-Americans were doing. Got to adapt for them.

This is supposed to be the year that the 2012 class makes an impact. Collins, Devall and Davis were the top three players in the state that year and we lost all of them.
They would have been playmakers at all three levels, and this D would have been a hell of a lot better. They didn't come, and that's their prerogative, but not replacing those guys with somewhat equal talent is coming back to haunt us.
The recruiting strategy with in-state kids needs to change. We can't just sit back and count on these guys only to get left high and dry on signing day.

It's always going to happen because it all hinges on the whims of a 17-18 year old star athlete. It doesn't happen much with the guy who is just thankful to have a scholarship. People following these star recruits so closely and reacting so openly only gives them more incentive to make it "dramatic". Happens to every school, and there's not much that can be done once it happens late. By that point, a lot of kids who are good enough to get the call have already going elsewhere and have a chip on their shoulder for waiting.

They have no talent. They are gaining experience, but only bad experience. The defense will get better when the recruiting gets better. All of these players are hopeless. The only answer is new and better players.

From here on out, we'd better start recruiting the top two or three players at each position nationally and make damn sure we lock up at least one of them. If we don't, we'll be watching those guys making plays for some other team on Saturdays while our program is taking a step backwards.
