Are we getting ready to heare 3rd and Chavis. why he rushed 4 the entire last drive is beyong me. Murray can't run out of his shadow in a week. The only time we hurried him is when we rushed 5. What did we have to lose, we weren't slowing them down. On the last offensive drive we weren't prepared, only time this year the offense has let us down. We scored 41 and should have won with that number.

Chavis is:

1) Outstanding with outstanding defensive speed and talent

2) Really outstanding with outstanding defensive speed and talent -AND- a strong DB coach like Ron Cooper

3) Pretty damn good with pretty good talent/speed

4) Average without outstanding defensive speed and talent -AND- a poor DB coach like Corey Raymond.

Right now, we are #4...An average SEC defense (optimistically, we are average, maybe below average on D).

Opposing teams have too many 2nd and 5 and it has been going on for a while. Fix that and we are ok.

The SEC coach that said he relies on that Tampa 2 scheme with hardly any pressure up front. Mostly that 4 man rush was dead on!

No it is not. Saban knows how to coach DB's, and can intervene, and does, to bring in schemes and techniques and adjustments, as witness to the adjustments that led to shutting down what everyone thought was a dangerous Ole Miss O.

LSU has no one like that on the staff.

I believe that when he wins without having #1 recruiting class year after year. Even with that he said he has talent problems last week.

Once the DBs learn how to communicate and cover man to man, he'll bring more pressure. Right now, bringing pressure means getting toasted.

case in point. After the early season struggles, he and his staff teamed up to shut down Wallace and Ole Miss to zero points. Like Miles intervenes to the offense, Saban has a hand in the Bama defense and always will. Kirby Smart or not, Saban is highly involved in the DB adjustments

And when we've actually brought pressure, we've gotten no pressure.

His scheme is very basic. Base defense and you either blitz or you don't. Beat the guy in front of you.

When you have uber-talented players, you can do that. Right now the players we have simply can't do what they're being asked, particularly at linebacker. Make one on one tackles.

I do think the secondary will eventually come around to an extent, although safety will always be a concern. But those missed assignments should be cleaned up over the course of the season. Hopefully soon.

Obviously you didn't watch that game. Ole Miss was inside Bama's red zone multiple times and their stupid head coach kept going on 4th downs instead kicking the FGs. Also, your argument doesn't mean he doesn't have talent. Like I said, I like to see him win without #1 recruiting class but you college football is all recruiting and they give too much credit to coaches.

You get it, but #4 can also be young and inexperienced, even with talent and speed.

Another thing with Chavis. If not comfortable with his defense, he plays them softer and drops more into coverage. Problem is our guys right now can't cover, so Chavis should have them blitz (real blitzes) and pressure more, and have them try to strip the ball on every play. If you can't cover, you have to be aggressive and opportunistic.

Unfortunately, it is very unlikely that Chavis will do this, because Chavis sticks to what he does even to its detriment.

They're getting toasted anyway and giving the QB all day. They need to sell out on attacking the QB.
