Went last night at the last minute with friends. Glad we did. I know there has been discussion that the idea of a steak house with a high price point will be challenged to succeed in Central. I understand that perspective, but sincerely hope it does stay around. They seem to have a pedigreed team, with chefs from LA Lagniappe and Le Creole, and Kevin Kimball as GM. I think the Denham/Central area can support this type of restaurant. I live in Denham and enjoyed being able to drive 10 minutes and be at that caliber establishment. If last night was an example -- I am thinking the restaurant will do well. There was no wait, but the place was full. The outdoor patio was full as well.

It is an attractive restaurant. Two levels inside and out. A nice bar which opens to the patio. In good weather, the patio will be a good place to enjoy dinner or an LSU game. It has the big fiery fountain which always reminds me of Pat Os. The inside is very open, with exposed beams, brick archways and ironwork. We sat right next to the bar and the wine cellar, so I did not see the back part of the room or the upstairs. There were patrons seated upstairs, which is why I have the impression that they were fairly full.

We began with cocktails. They were strong and tasty. I got a Pimm's cup which was very refreshing. Hubs got his usual Old Fashioned. He said it was fine, but he's had better. Friends got a gin and tonic which was quite strong, and a pear and rosemary martini which was said to be very good. I was interested to see that they offered "old school" cocktails like a Sazerac, Pimms Cup, Ramos Gin Fizz and the like. We did wait longer than I thought was optimal for our drinks, but the bar was doing a brisk business from the patio.

We eschewed appetizers, which was not my ideal, but others at the table were ready to get on with the main course. I was wanting to try the boudin spring rolls, since that appears to be a specialty, and uses local Jerry Lee's boudin. They also offer grilled oysters, which I LOVE, and like to compare from place to place. Notably, they use Leidenheimer bread with the oysters.

We all got salads -- two Sensation, two bleu cheese wedges. I had the wedge, and it was one of the best I have had. Not huge in portion, very cold and crisp, large chunks of bacon, a few grape tomatoes, and lots of blue cheese. There seemed to be balsamic in the dressing as well, which added a nice flavor to the salad. The sensation salad was presented in an unusual and attractive way -- a thin slice of cucumber surrounded the salad ingredients, and the greens were topped with a pepperoncini pepper and what appeared to be sun dried tomato? I dont know, as I did not have it, but both guys who had it were pleased. The one error in our service was the failure to bring turtle soup ordered by a member of the party, but this was not even recalled until we were on the way home.

Two members of the party got the six ounce filet, and two got the Cajun-rubbed NY strip. I would have liked to try the strip since it is their signature steak, apparently, but I believe it was 16 oz, which I can just not do. My husband got it and said it was the best strip he has had in a long time. The added spice appealed to him. It was cooked to his liking, and offered with grilled scallions and a melange of corn, roasted tomato and spinach which he said was a good accompaniment. I had the filet, which was tender, cooked medium as medium should be done, and had a good sear. It was topped with a few crispy onions which I enjoyed. They serve the steaks in cast iron skillets, which keep the steaks warm, and add a bit of ambiance to the presentation. The bread offered with the meal was very good as well. We had a side of steamed asparagus which was cooked properly, and did what asparagus does. Not floppy, not raw -- seasoned properly.

We had bananas Foster and cheesecake for dessert. The cheesecake is apparently shipped in from Carnegie in NYC. I had it plain, altho chocolate, caramel, raspberry and strawberry toppings were offered. It was dense, tangy and what cheesecake should be. My dinner partners had bananas Foster and LOVED it. One patron said it was far better than Brennan's, and was among the best he's had anywhere.

The service was good. I think our waiter was relatively new, but was very genial and took good care of us. Kevin Kimball asked how things were during the course of the meal, and was very much involved in operations throughout the evening, it appeared, which is nice to see. As to the price -- it is expensive. Very expensive. The strips are more than $40, the filets $32. Wedges $11, Sensation salads $9. I did not see the check, but it had to have been formidable. It will be a good special occasion or splurge option. However, some of our party noted that they would be pleased to have a few appetizers and dessert on the patio more regularly.

I hope they make it. It is a good addition to the outlying retaurant scene, the product is good, and the experience pleasant.

Nice review. Thanks. I assume the sides are ala carte. Were the sides large enough to share? Is there any seafood on the menu?

Yes, the sides and salads are a la carte. $8 for the sides, but they are definitely large enough to share. We were splitting the asparagus between the two of us who got the filet (as the strips came with veg on the side), and there was MORE than enough.

There is quite a bit of seafood on the menu. The special last night was a striped bass. We saw TREMENDOUS fried shrimp being served to the table beside us. They have lamb, short rib, chicken and mushroom ravioli entrees as well. They have lobster available.

I do not remember how much the ribeyes were -- I noticed because that is my mother's fave cut, and I wanted to be able to tell her. I think it was $38/40? I also noted it was 14 oz, which means she and my dad would split it!

Interesting. I think we'll try it at some point. I still say $150+ dinner for 2 is going to be a very hard sell long term out there

Lots of people throwing down $$ last night! I know what you mean, though. People may just be coming to check it out, and not be regulars due to the price. I hope that does not happen. I am nervous about it, because I would like it to remain open.

Place is great. Was hesitant like most of the board but Kevin Kimball is a great guy and always checks around with people. That New York strip is slamming, but yeah expensive...at least it has the vegetable of the day come with it.

Smoked ribeye is pretty good too, although some might not like it. Lot of people going for drinks and appetizers. Onion rings are good, just onion rings I guess done right. The spring rolls are delicious. And their burger at lunch is absurdly delicious. Easily a top contender for best burger around BR.

Sounds like the meal was great. I hope they make it in the long haul. I still chuckle at their location. central is one thing but off lovett in the mish mash of housing etc. Actually that whole development just screams out of place when you look at everything around it. I love the look of the houses there and if I were to move back to central I would move there. I grew up on property that backs up to the development, used to play war, ride dirt bikes on the property. I wish em luck!

I went there recently and really enjoyed it. The easiest way to describe it is a local version of Flemings (probably Sullivans too but I really don't think Sullivans is very good). Overall I'd say the food was slightly better than Flemings and the atmosphere is very New Orleans, it's still upscale but relaxed rather than stuffy.

The salad was good, and it's rare that I notice the salad, the steaks were great (cajun rubbed NY strip FTW), and the desert was delicious (chocolate chip cookie in the cast iron skillet is awesome). Because of it's location I don't know if I'd choose it over something like Fleming's every time, but I'd say it's worth the drive out to Central every once in a while. And if you live in the area, you have no reason to go into BR for a nice steak house.

There are fried shrimp. They are huge and delicious.

Sides are ala carte, although a few mains come with something.

I've been for brunch, lunch, and dinner each one time. The stip and burger are great.

I used to live in Denham, and the middle of Lovett Road is not any closer to Denham than hopping on the interstate and heading to BR unless you live directly over Magnolia Bridge or something

That said, good and thorough review. My parents live in Central (I grew up there) and they've visited. I'd like to go one night too.

A good review and thanks for the information. This is way more information than the average person would provide, were you paid to post this on here? I don't remember ever reading a more thorough review, even in magazines. Seems as if you remembered the exact prices of all the items that were ordered at your table and even provided prices for items that your table didn't even order. You remembered the exact names and details of each specific drink. You even know all the chef's and GM's names and their former employers! Call me crazy, but this is no ordinary review of Stabs from an average joe, you were paid to post this right?

ETA: We've done brunch there and it was pretty good, but also, as you mentioned, pricey. Not off the charts in either regard. All in all a good experience. I hope they make it. I don't remember prices, drink names, the chef and assistants name, general managers name, his wife, her brother, etc.....just remember it being decent food but pricey. Wait staff seemed well trained and attentive. Nice place.

I've seen plenty of detailed reviews like the above on this board, many with photos of the food. What's with the accusation? You own a competing restaurant?

I'm asking a question, not making an accusation. There's a difference. What's the big deal? I'm just curious. And no, this isn't an average restaurant post, don't act like I don't have a point.

Here's one of mine and I've written a number of reviews on the board.

LINK

I think you just haven't been around long enough to see the reviews here. Many are as detailed, if not more detailed, than eleventy's.

Based on my experience nothing in that review is out of line, but I would say this sounds like it could be a professional author with a part time gig posting to social media.

If the OP is not a paid plant then she should take the accusation as a compliment but dumb it down next time
