The picture posted with the man is a grunt. The other is grouper bait. Grunts are ok to eat. Pin fish not so much. So to the op how did it taste .

I gotta admit I was likely wrong. I'd never heard of a pigfish before, much less seen one but after googling it, I believe the fish you caught is a pigfish.

ETA: That being said though, there are plenty of juvenile mangroves being caught in the lakes, bays & marshes all over our area.

I was gonna say....that thing looks nothing like a pinfish that I've ever seen. Had never heard of a pigfish, either.
