I'm from Illinois and the investment banking competition is crazy up here. Was wondering if they have a lot of investment banks down here or starting to grow

Houston, Little Rock (Stephens), Charlotte, Atlanta (SunTrust) and maybe Dallas would be the spots that come to mind.

Yeah there are a lot of different I banks in the south but the competition is just as great due to there not being as many spots.

Well it seems like the first step is just getting a list of what banks are where, and which sizes these banks are. Here's a decent link for that: LINK.

quote:

The list with the top 200 investment banks and boutiques is segmented into three main categories:

Large, International Investment Banks – 10 Banks

Large, Mid-sized, and Prestigious Boutique Investment Banks – 40 Banks

Boutique Investment Banks – 150 Banks

For groups 1 & 2, there is a standard link to the bank’s career website.

It links to the company websites, and for the 150 boutique banks, it also gives the location.

Interning at a hedge fund right now in Dallas. Lots of banking, private equity, and hedge funds down here. Plus, Goldman Sachs has one of its bigger offices here.

I don't think GS has much banking in Dallas if that's what you're looking for. I believe it's mostly wealth management / private banking. As far as investment banking goes, there are some smaller shops in Dallas, but a lot more hedge funds and private equity. Of course it depends on what industry you're interested in, but for big time banking you'll have to look into Houston and Charlotte.

Edit: The problem with smaller regional shops is that they're pretty locked into their pipelines from regional schools when it comes to recruiting.

Venture capital is ultimate goal and path to that isn't clear. Rather work private equity or investment banking for a energy /department that has positive impact on this world compared to financial services.

I really understand and like merger and acquisitions concepts. I have start up company experience
