Well I guessed wrong.

not completely, the serrated surfaces you see on, for ex., an F-117, are to defeat radar, but look at the surfaces on the Concorde(50's technology, btw,) nothing is straight, or continuous, and that is for what you were saying it's for, the F-18 has some similar lines

Well I was talking specifically about the small serrations on the leading edges of the wings (or maybe it was the trailing edges?), and not the overall geometry.

shite now I'm going to have to look it up. It's bothering me.

I know they do a bunch of stuff with inlet geometry on supersonic aircraft to alter the mach number of the inlet air

You're on the right track. The Concorde had an angled intake, the SR-71 used cones at the intake to produce the angle. With the angle at intake, they are preventing a perpendicular shock wave from forming at the intake and "damming" the flow. With the angle , the shock wave forms at an angle that allows air to accelerate into the engines. I think.

Quite the Internet feat if you can "look up" compressible flow mechanics.

How far are you in school? Most of this stuff came during turbo-machinery lessons

I was watching a show on Netflix (from NOVA or Discovery or something) about stealth technology and some of the stuff was way cool. Like how they were able to get their radar signature down to the size of a bird, then a bug, smaller and smaller until they were virtually undetectable, using different materials and surface contours. So awesome.

It really was. A marvel for its time. I would have loved to be able to see that thing in the sky.

I took turbo machinery my last semester. See if you can take it with Guo. People would fall asleep in his class but he had me wide eyes the whole time. Great class.

the largest radar signature on an F-22 is the milliseconds it takes for the missile door to open, release the missile, and close, virtually undetectable

re: A Picture of the New 747 Engines

Well after this semester I'll be done with everything except sr design, so it'd have to be 100% voluntary.

I can't find what I was talking about. It must have been in another book.

It's incredible that something so big can laugh at radar.

it's amazing, it really obsolesces older gen fighters, like the F-15,-16,-18, and certainly anything anyone else has, when it comes to air to air, unfortunately, I know of the humility from a good source
