Why are so many on here obsessed with naming the field/stadium?

And the statues...Why do people get so excited about putting up statues?

Please, I just don't get it, would the pro-statue and naming-things people explain it to me?

I like the statues.

Please don't name the field in TS.

Perhaps people think it will help attract better players and coaches. Others feel it is a nice way to remember the Tiger greats.

Honestly, I am somewhat indifferent, but I feel that you need to have a clear cut set of requirements so as to keep it special.

I don't feel too passionate about it but I am pro statue/naming because it pays homage to Tiger greats. I guess it also kind of makes me nostalgic.

Ask Penn State about their statues.

Not a fan.

Because statues, when done well, are cool.

Imagine one of Pistol in front of the PMAC.

Right or wrong, we place these athletes on pedestals and they become iconic figures in our minds. Why not go the extra step and make it official and have the statue and add something even more special to the atmosphere of the complex?

I'm surprised that you have to have something as mundane and common as this explained to you.

I definitely think that Tiger Stadium should never be renamed, nor should the field be named. There is a mystique that the stadium has earned, it is iconic in college football. Don't mess with it.

I'm ok with statues honoring past coaches and players, but generally dislike doing this while they are alive. But I am ok with not having them. A nice plaque can serve as well to commemorate outstanding contributors on the field or court. I generally like the low key approach in such things, but statues honoring the best of the best wouldn't offend me.

Thanks for responses. Statues ok, naming stadium/field no.

Tiger n atl, maybe because they are "common and mundane" I don't see them as something missing from our unique athletics. Dick.
But I guess statues of Pistol, Skip, Cannon would be cool. Can we get a tall Saban with huge hands?

I think statues are weird when it comes to football. Lincoln's statue in Washington is moving. But if you want a creepy experience walk from the frat houses at Tuscaloosa to BD Stadium past all the statues of coaches. I'm no born again christian, but the phrase "graven image" went through my head. I don't think it would change if I walked past LSU coaches. And you don't make statues of living people--Saban and Stallings are there. Ask Penn State about this. This is a game we're talking about, not a war.
