Payton era worst- 10 sacks allowed in 3 games

The Saints have allowed 10 sacks this year -- the most in any three-game stretch since Payton and Brees arrived in 2006. Brees has also taken a pounding on several other throws that didn’t result in sacks, some of which led to even more costly interceptions.
That’s certainly not the norm around New Orleans, where the Saints have allowed the fewest sacks of any team in the NFL dating back to 2006 -- a total of 158, including this season, and an average of 21 per year from 2006-2012. That’s pretty remarkable considering they throw the ball as much as they do, but Brees’ savvy and Payton’s scheming have a lot to do with it.
No one lineman has been repeatedly victimized. And new left tackle Charles Brown has been mostly solid in place of former Pro Bowler Jermon Bushrod – so it’s not a case where Bushrod’s absence has created an insurmountable void.
One could argue that former offensive line coach Aaron Kromer has been missed even more, since he was a steady influence for years. But the Saints have faith in new line coach Bret Ingalls, who spent the past four seasons as the team’s running backs coach. And the linemen themselves are established veterans who know they aren’t living up to their standard.
The good news is the Saints have a proven track record in this department -- much like the red zone problems they cleaned up in Week 3 after a slow start in the first two games.

I'm betting it all comes from Evans having been dinged up- then replaced by a UDFA.. The O-Line operates as a group more than any other position IMO. Let's just call it concerned right now.

He did play in the first two games. And was replaced by Lelito in game 3.

I agree, this unit performs as a group, not one individual player.
The downfall is that with arguably the most consistent (maybe even best) guard in the league currently hurt with back and hamstring issues, we don't have a truly viable replacement to compete at his elite level.
The line needs to seriously improve or we're going to be in a world of hurt against premier defenses.

I think well be fine as the season goes on and it was really just amplified when Lelito got beat time and time again against the Cards

that was the biggest concern going into this year..as far as the offense went.
He's done pretty good like you mentioned.
Evans has been hurt so when he gets back to being healthy, things will get better. That right side has been a little bit of a sore spot.
Lelito didn't exactly get beat by some scrub the other day either, Darnell Dockett is good player.
won't lie though, I'm a little nervous about this group right now. Drew is getting hit a lot.

Tim Lelito is an effing disaster. Made Dockett look like an all-pro. God help us if he continues to start.
I never even heard of him till last sunday.

He's taken some nasty hits to the shoulder.
Payton needs to stop sending every receiver past 10 yards on every play. He needs to stop going from iform to empty backfield. He needs more running back chip blocks. I feel like he relapsed. He's looking alot more like the frustrating Payton we knew in his beginning here than the refined genius he became. He needs to adjust his scheme to this oline. Quick routes, screens, etc...
It's obvious what the next play will be if the previous play isn't successful and that's not good. Predictability is a death sentence. We need to go back to short plays and long sustained drives. Forget this failed run then deep pass shite we've been watching so far.
Drew has one of the fastest releases in the game. Use it.

I really, REALLY wish we knew what was going with Evans.
He was nursing an unknown back injury that messed with his performance and now he's straight up not playing due to hamstring issues.
I really have no idea what to expect.

You're right. I really pay attention to TC beasting guards that are rookie free agents.

I think it's hard to ignore the obvious. Kromer clearly had a more profound impact on the performance of the O Line than we thought. This shouldn't come as a surprise given the incredibly stark contrast between the defense of this year and last, largely attributable to the new DC...not to mention Payton most certainly lighting a fire under everyone's asses.
That doesn't disqualify the possibility of personnel issues, but my money would be on coaching being the cause of most of our O-Line woes. Hopefully this is something which will be remedied sooner rather than later.

Remember when we had Jonathan Goodwin, Jon Stinchcomb, Carl Nicks, Jammal Brown, and Jermon Bushrod?
