Last Week Results - Longrange from San Diego

Here's my not so subtle brag thread....
Took a week off to go on a long range trip (something I've done for the last 7 years). The trip always leaves out of Point Loma and heads south along the baja peninsula. We usually hit the offshore tuna grounds first then head inland for some yellotail, halibut, calico bass, white seabass fishing.
This year we had a stop in the offshore grounds and picked up a few tuna but the weather was pretty bad. We headed toward Cedros island and got into the yellowtail pretty thick. Most of the YT were in the 25-40 lb range. These cousins to the AJ will try their best to pull your arm off. And they are excellent for sashimi, fish tacos or just grilled. We also had a visit from some Mexican lobster fishermen. We gave them a few cokes and sent them on their way.
On the way back we got into a yellowfin tuna bite like I've never seen before and may likely never see again. They were swarming right under the boat, picking up bait as soon as it hit the water, hittin homemade "lures" made from shite from the trashcan. The captains even got out the jack poles and caught about a dozen before they were worn out.
Requisite foot-in-view-pic
And to top things off we eat like champions.
Last one...stuck my camera down into the bait tray and got a pretty cool pick of a sardine looking in.

It's a pretty sweet trip. Started by a bunch of fisheries biologists that went to Humboldt State. It's pretty nice when you catch something odd and they all gather around to tell you about the species. Plus, they're all pretty badass fishermen.
Its a few thousand bucks to take the trip plus tips, processing, etc but in the end, it's worth it for me.

Don, which boat were you on? I've researched this for years, even talked to captains of long range boats when I've been in Cabo (decided going out of there because getting the meat home seemed problematic).
And yes, I hate you.
j/k, just jelly beyond belief

It's the Royal Star. I think it roughly 95' long with a 26' beam. It's a bit "rolly" but the crew makes up for it.

How much fish were you able to bring home?
Posted on 9/25/13 at 9:05 am to wickowick
12 Yellowtail
15 Yellowfin
3 Dorado
1 Bluefin
The mexican government has a 30 fish total/no more than 15 of any species kind of limit.
They have processing available so all you bring home is fillets. Pretty good deal.
