An annual event that shifts the state's population balance and puts more coonasses in NELA than rednecks.

If it is brown, it is down for me this year. Deer may weigh 60 lbs and I'm shooting it.

i have seen guys carrying fawns out in one hand at both Tensas and Bayou Cocodrie NWR lottery hunts. Barely more meat than a rabbit. The agents have a hard time not laughing when they check out.

I used to love the doe days at Russle Sage. You might see coonass' with deer, rabbit, squirrel, fish, coons and any other critter that roams those parts. A coonass doesn't care as long as he gets to bring the meat home.

Some of the contraptions they would bring were worth ones time to go out and tour the campground.

According to a padnuh of mine, someone checked out a 32lb doe a couple years ago during the 3 day muzzle loader season at Tunica WMA. The biologists lifted every hair looking for spots.

I forgot about that draw hunt MANY years ago and I was bow hunting. I just let my bow down to the ground and hugged the tree as tightly as I could. Sounded like the Alamo.

Naw, I wasn't there, but I did train a chocolate lab and sell it to the Texas Governor that supplied all the cattle for the first movie version of The Alamo... Troof

I know that it used to be good hunting there. The quality of deer has declined over the years because of the reasons already stated. I used to look forward to it every year but I have not applied to the lottery for 10 years. It is amazing when all the shooting starts in the morning.

Didn't get drawn for the second time in about 16 years. They were letting in 5,000 a year back in the day. The herd was actually above carrying capacity and they opened fire. Prefer bow hunting anyway. Hard to to beat for bow.

Talk to me. I am not going to hunt it but just curious about that. My family has land very close.
