Looking for an AR. I have some gun experience but not a ton. Spent hours looking up stuff build vs non-build, and figuring out exactly what I want out of the gun. Ran into the definition of the scout rifle and I liked it. Would like to bring this weapon to a herd of pigs and throw a bunch of rounds at them.

I want something light and short. Was interested in a bigger cal than .223 so that it might be more effective with pigs and deer. Want red dot no magnification, for quick target acquisition. And low recoil, for throwing a lot of lead. Not a long distance weapon, therefore, something for 200 yards or less. Features like short barrel, free float forend desired. Not interested in vertical fore grip as I might want to rest the weapon when firing.

Then I came across the aac blackout with a suppressor. Would love to push the subsonic ammo as it is quiet and recoil looks low. It seems to fit many of my desires. Looked at the factory DPMS and Bushmaster. Looked good to me, but noticed that the 16 inch barrels would be super long when the suppressor is attached.

Then came across this 9 inch barrel ar aac 300 blackout and came to think this is what I want.

So my journey has brought me to researching NFA Gun Trusts so that I can acquire a SBR suppressed AR.

Wanted the OB experts to look over my thinking to make should that I was coming to a reasonable product given my desires.

Thanks in advance, feel free to destroy my thinking where necessary.

Would love one of those but it will be a ways down the line. Ammo is not cheap and neither is the gun. But they sure do look fun as shite.

cant recommend that setup enough. 300blk is a great round, especially suppressed

Yeah, I have gone from wanting a reasonably priced gun, to thinking I know I want to buy the gun plus suppressor plus $400 of NFA taxes plus $300 to $600 gun trust thru a lawyer.

I have a 300 blk out upper for my Smith and Wesson ar-15, and the suppressor is in the works. Didn't do the SBR on this one maybe later. I. Setup a trust with two friends and we bought three cans. If you are looking for a NFA trust lawyer let me know I'll forward you the contact info of the the guy I used.

Stingray, I don't own an AR15, but I've killed deer w/ a Thompson Center Contender using a 12" long 300/221 barrel; the 300/221 (actually developed by JD Jones as the "300 Whisper") was the precursor to the 300 BLK. For what you want to do, I think the 300 BLK is a reasonable choice. I'd encourage you to fully understand what you'll have from a ballistic standpoint. Many folks nowdays (don't put me in that category) think the 30-30 Winchester is useless as a big game hunting round. Factory 30-30 Win muzzle velocities w/ a 150 gr bullet run from 2200-2400 fps. Depending on barrel length, the supersonic 300 BLK velocities will run 200-400 fps less than the 30-30. My personal experience w/ the 300/221 on small whitetail deer at up to 200 yards has been favorable (my handloads get 2250 fps w/ the 125 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip bullet). W/ a 16" barrel, you'll have a decent hunting gun for inside 200 yards; w/ shorter barrels, you'll lose velocity AND hunting range. I've not hunted deer w/ 300/221 subsonic loads but I've read of a handgun hunter who has. IIRC, he was not as impressed w/ the subsonic load for deer hunting. This was from a man who kills >50 deer/year so I trust his experience greatly.

Even the supersonic loads have VERY mild recoil and are much more quiet than most hunting loads.

What about getting a 16" threaded barrel, shoot the gun as is and see how you like it? If you're not happy, you can always add the suppressor and/or go to a shorter barrel.

300 BLK Barrel, inches Bullet Wt., gr Velocity, fps
16 125 2215
12.5 125 2150
9 125 2030

is a shorter barrel with a suppressor that together measures 16 inches equal to a 16 inch barrel without a suppressor in terms of ballistics?

Before getting though the first paragraph I thought "this guy needs a blackout". Glad to see you are on the right track.

There are two guys that I know of in NOLA/Metry to shoot you straight re: trusts. Email me at xenon 4 lsu gmail for contact info if you want

If you start shooting 300blk, I would strongly suggest you get into reloading. They have tutorials online to convert 556/223 brass into 300blk brass so cases will be plentiful. There are also a wide variety of aftermarket bullets in 30 caliber. You would save a lot of money and could load the round to your exact needs. I think it would work well for you.

And there are plenty guys here who have slain pigs with 300blk so I think they'll agree that you're making a good decision.

Maybe instead of the 9 inch barrel, I will consider the 12.5 and cut the ballistics and length baby in half

This is my goal as well. My next AR build will be a 16" 300blk so that my son can shoot deer with it. I like the AR platform for a youth gun since the recoil is next to nothing and the collapsible stock is great for kids. I would think with 220gr subsonics and a can that thing would be bad arse on pigs.

Just tossing this in the ring...OP just so you know, it will be closer to a year from when you submit your paperwork to when you get your stamps. You need to figure out how you're going to fill your AR needs in the gap. From what I understand, with the NFA rule change bullshite going on right now, you want to submit your paperwork yesterday.

This is true. The Zero is working overtime to change the rules regarding trusts. You'll be subject to all the rules that individuals have to go through regarding Title II firearms.

Holy cow, people set up trusts to own guns?! That seems to be completely over the top.

Don't rule out enterprising lawyers selling you something that you don't need. Trusts are pretty big in Estate planning these days, and rarely necessary or useful by the time the codgers actually set them up, IMHO. However, lawyers are on the radio and giving free seminars to drum up business.
