This was one of the most concerning things out of my fathers mouth when we spoke about the game this evening that I thought was ridiculous. In addition to his other negativity, that was his exact quote and what he seemed to be most concerned about. Someone please help me rest tonight and help me understand the reason the stadium was half empty after halftime. I certainly think its ridiculous to make that statement, but he claims many people were complaining today. I know that I did not make the trip from Houston as the weather report stated it would rain all day and throughout the game. Thoughts/comments/concerns?

um it was awful weather and we were beating the crap out of Auburn

it felt like a non conference game with a potential monsoon

we'll be fine

last year I was at the Alabama and USCe games in the stadium...the Alabama game was probably the most consistently loud game I've ever attended...USCe was loud as hell, too.

Students don't have a true appreciation for how good we are. They didn't see anything before Saban era to understand. It's a spoiled fan base. Combine that with the mind blowing fact that more people would rather tailgate than go inside the game. I don't understand it.

I don't need to calm down I just think its a ridiculous statement. Also, if it was not raining at half, why would people leave? We were not killing them at half. I don't consider 21-0 a blowout. 40k+ people have somewhere else to be or something better to do on a Saturday night. It does seem strange!

Students don't have sideline seats.

I was freezing my arse off and we were winning by 3 touchdowns. Why would I stay past halftime?

Ticket prices
TGBFTL sucks and never plays
Piped in music
Conservative play calling
Spoiled Vulgar Students
People more concerned with the tailgate
Traffic sucks
People have kids
Too much advertisement

Anything but the shitty weather or the fact that we were up 21-0 at the half and dominating the game.

there are a couple of things that have changed over the years:

you can't get in a game on a student id any more and you can't cram 12 people on a 10 person row there either...

21 year old drinking age and attempting to enforce it means that the student body (which is a lot smarter now that open admissions are gone) is a touch more sober and more likely to come up with stuff like "f*** you auburn"

You could have warmed yourself with a brisk jog down the field like you said you were going to do.

Honestly, a run of 5 bad years would bring back the magic. People expect a win every game, and it affects the enthusiasm.

Plus, every game is televised now. I remember the days it was radio or in person.

The student section stayed full much longer than the rest of the stadium last night

It was 21-0 at the half; raining like hell. That was more than enough of an excuse for the cocktail crowd between the 30s to bail.

it really is time for old people like your dad to quit going to games and talkin' about the good ol' days.

i'm old and my knees can't take it. tell him to remember the good ol' days and enjoy the moment and quit raggin' on all the changes.

for the one who were complaining about it being cold (i guess the 70's is cold now) you knew it was going to be rainy so why did you not bring a jacket?

I predict that different people make different arguments in this fresh, eye-opening thread.
