I got a place I am going to plant next year for doves.
What's the best sunflower? Small, medium, giant, single head, multiple head?
What's the best millet? Japanese, brown top?
Responde vous si vous plait.

Millet--- I think brown top for doves(does good in dry ground) Japanese is better in wet conditions for ducks (if it were legal )
sunflower--The ones that make the smaller skinnier seed. seed is mostly black.

Brown top!!
especially if you have any population of deer, those bastards will mow down the sunflowers every time i think i have a good crop going. Quit trying 3 years ago.

it is more about the timing of planting than the actual plant.
I suggest planting approximately 7-10 days before season in dry weather and 1-3 days in really wet weather.
Good luck

Brown top and as far as sun flowers go I wouldnt waste my time. You'll be better off with corn

Wat?
Sunflowers are by far your best bet. Plant conventional Black Oil sunflowers. Plant first part of May. Keep the grass out.

How many birds were killed in your field opening day? bet I win

I've hunted in plenty of corn fields and killed some birds, but a corn field with a strip of sunflowers running down the side of a ditch and powerline is better.

370. 9 acre field. Last years opening day field killed 1,100 on 35 acres.

Corn and sunflowers are of no comparrison for stacking birds. That thought is laughable.

Them sunflowers work better when you don't plant them.

We've tried the different sunflowers, millet, sorghum, etc. Nothing has worked as well as corn.

Damn that's awesome. I would love to see 75 people hunting on less than 3 acres.

Is there much corn around you?
The corn we have permission to hunt is surrounded by multi thousands of acres of corn. If you can scout and find an area they are using you can kill a few, but in general they are just too spread out.

That's got to be the key at your place then. It's on both sides of the river North and South for miles around us.

We also have water, powerline, pecan and live oak trees.
