Well if that's the case and the law was not applied evenly then that's obviously a problem.

Were any other political groups targeted?

Clearly the rules aren't enforced. Moveon.org is in clear violation. Has been for some time...

Only the TigerDroppings Poli Board. The ONLY source you need.

You are making a huge leap calling these groups "political". I think you know that.

Why the hell were these groups trying to become Tax Exempt in the first place?

Probably because they know how to read an income statement and understand one without a line for taxes is preferable to one with a line for taxes.

Just a guess.

Is this the proverbial smoking gun?

This bit of news, combined with what we leanred of Lerner's deeper involemnet a couple of days ago, confirms what many of us suspected, namely that Obama was using a govt agency to silence his critics.

For starters , not all the protesters in the TP formed non-profits , do you think all of the lefty wall street protesers were non-profits ?

Secondly , you can have up to 49 percent political activity and still be qualified under the law , these liberal groups have been doing this for 30 years , but they don't want anti liberal groups getting the same advantage they have.

As for being anti Obama , that should have no bearing on the IRS , it didn't bother them when the left groups were anti Bush.

What we have here is a sicko culture of left leaning loonies who couldn't make it in the real world , so they get a fat government check and try and implement all their loony ideas on the U.S.A.

what we have here is both sides playing the game and taking advantage of the system. Should the IRS be targeting based on specific political affiliation, no.

We need to move on from seeing the bias the IRS used which is deplorable to fixing the situation so that it doesn't happen again. I'd like to see any kind of political group lose non profit status. This would need to affect both sides.

I wonder how many people recognize how truly dangerous this is. If a Republican had done this, impeachment proceeding would be underway.

Groups seeking this kind of tax-exempt status cannot be primarily involved in politics. Anti-any politician rhetoric is evidence of politics involvement.

I'm not sure how it's relevant. The IRS is charged with following the law. NOT following the laws they agree with.

The blame transfer in this thread is epic. The government harrasses groups with opposing views... and now those groups are somehow the bad guys...

Congrats. This is the kinda stuff that oppressors dream of...

I disagree to a point , people need to go to jail , and I think if you were hooked to a lie detector , we all know Obama was behind this.
