What they didn't take into account is that Mathieu is no ordinary rookie. Despite sitting out his final season at LSU last year for disciplinary reasons, and despite being matched against an offense that ranked second in passing and third in total yards last season, he did not consider the moment or the game too big. After surrendering the catch to Burleson on an underneath route he coolly tackled him a yard short of the first down to preserve the Cardinals' 25-21 victory.

quote:

"What he did is nothing new to us," said linebacker Karlos Dansby. "It's new to everybody else, but not to us. He's been doing it since training camp. The crazy part about it is, he took a year off last year yet he's so consistent on THIS level. I've never seen anything like it - the consistency ... for a rookie ... who didn't play last year. Never."

What he is doing is nothing new to us either.

Him on the team last year is a completely different record. He's a special player.

Relax, this is not from the Dohrmann, Pete Thamel crew. Jim Trotter is a respected NFL writer.

It is really a shame that he was not able to play last year. It would have really been fun to watch.

It's Sports Illustrated, so they're just building him up so they can tear him down later.

SI has decided to become the national enquirer. I'll never click a link to their site. No one should.

Do you know how hard it is for a rookie defender to make such a noticeable impact in the first 2 games?

Oh you mean like Reid's two INT's?

I'm not ripping the honey badger I love him but geesh let's see him continue to make plays over the season before crowning him

Nobody is crowning him anything. The article was about a former LSU player known for his knack of making game changing plays, especially in his rookie season, a year after he sat out an entire season with no football.
