"There are rumors NOLA will be in the running for an MLS team. The team would be owned by Benson, with a partnership with Manchester United (the Glazer family), and would play their home games in Tulane's new stadium. The rumors have legs, FWIW."--citychamp

This was posted by citychamp on saints report. He follows it up with lots of posts with information. Anyone else hear anything about this??

Could New Orleans support another pro sports team? I know it's been a little shaky with the Hornets over the years.

This Is what I thought. And probably still is true. But of you read the whole thread he lays out the business sense for it. I mean, if he really doesn't have connections and is making it up, it's quite the troll effort. A lot of what he says makes sense.

There should still be a team in Atlanta or Nashville before there's one in New Orleans.

They do need another team they can fail to support.

Do it, Benson.

I'll buy 4 season tickets this afternoon.

But dear god they better have a Honduran DP.

So I have rumors of Atlanta (where I currently live) and New Orleans (where I frequently visit, have friends that live there, and is only 75 minutes from my hometown).

Great.

Wonder where this guy is getting his info, because there hasn't been any news of this anywhere else. MLS expansion rumors usually spread like wildfire.

Some of the stuff City Champ says in there is just plain wrong though, which has me doubting the validity in this.

Take this for example.

FOX is rolling out a BIG soccer push, both MLS and premier league. That isn't on accident.

What?

They just lost the EPL and have never shown interest in MLS.

Always a classic. Never gets old.

Y'all need to be prepared...Atlanta is getting a club. So is Miami. Deal with it.

Yep. Would guarantee a very good crowd at every match.

I would love this.

Good question. Garber pretty much said 3 teams are pretty much already selected and I think we can all pretty much say that those cities will be Atlanta, Orlando, and Miami. I think the 4th will be Minneapolis or somewhere out west. Unless maybe someone is getting Chivas.

Its funny because its true.

Case in point: I was in ATL last year for the NFC championship game visiting friends who moved there for work. Their group of friends there had all grown up in Atlanta (about 10 people). They decided they were going to go buy their Falcons gear the morning of the NFC championship because none of them had jerseys or shirts to wear during the game.

Seriously?
