wow...even I'm surprised...

They never took a black girl ever?

What year is it in Alabama?

Ole Miss has arguably the strongest greek system in the country, along with the University of Texas and maybe the University of Alabama. The fraternities at Ole Miss have been integrated for two decades. There was a black in Sigma Chi twenty years ago (Sigma Chi is one of the most elite fraternities on campus. There have also been black girls in Ole Miss sororities for years now.

Calling the Greek system at Ole Miss "integrated" is a bit of a stretch.

The alumni are fricking idiots for passing on a great Candiate in a rushee and and it's obvious as shite race played a role here. Their loss.

However, it's a private organization and they cannot be forced to change their views on it. Certainly not under the power of the state but rather the court of public opinion forcing them to do so.

Actually it's horrible - my daughter led a charge at Bama back in 1998 and the sorority almost dissolved, one that dates back to 1930's. The whole episode was terrible, it changed my daughter's life forever - she is the best.
Learning experience.

This part of it is very much the public's business:

quote:

An anonymous member of Chi Omega also told the CW the potential recruit received also perfect scores after the first round of recruitment, but cites its rush adviser, University employee Emily Jamison, being responsible for dropping her.

That's not a private individual or organization making the decision. It's an employee of a state university.

A question. What exactly is the significant moral failing of a group of whites wanting a white only club, blacks wanting a black only, gays wanting a gay only, straight wanting straight only, girls wanting girl only, Koreans wanting a Korean only etc etc etc? A little clarity would be great

Has Obama or Eric Holder weighed in on this yet?

How many black sororities are there at the University?

The Panhellenic system has established sororities that offer opportunities to students while in school and connections for their future...and it's the established opportunity to be a part of the fraternity/sorority society endorsed and partially funded by the University.

To say, blacks should start their own group...isn't the same. This isn't some backyard club.

That's akin to not letting black students use the University Sports Center...and telling them to build their own.

Obama said he had two daughters that could be black balled if they went to a crappy state university instead of an elite institution suitable for their presence.

I can't speak for those sororities, but know how it works with my fraternity at LSU. The elected alumni officers have awesome power that includes cutting a rushee or even getting rid of an active member. Fraternities and sororities are private clubs and if someone doesn't like how they work then that person can quit and hang out with some other group.

If the members don't like the Sorority they can quit and join a new one, I'm sure there would be a dog fight over them; if the alum don't like the chapter they can stop supporting it; if National doesn't like something in the process they can step in; if UA has a problem with some violation connected to rules about campus organizations they can step in. It is all about the process at UA.

I actually agree with this. I'm not arguing that a private club can't do this. I'm simply stating that a club would is bs. And it does seem as though some young ladies have stepped up. One resigned, others spoke out. Yes, this is great life experience.

What's even more surprising is the lack of response and obvious indifference from the Alabama administration. An employee of the U of A cut a girl just because she was black. If that had happened at Ole Miss she would been fired that day.

Then you lack intellectual honesty. HBCU are little more today than degree mills that allow many blacks to claim degree possession when they would lag middling white hs kids on any standardized test.

Considering the racist statements you've made on this board, your opinion on matters such as these mean absolutely nothing to me.

I was active from 2005-2009 and we had a kid not get a bid because he was half white/ half minority. It sucked because the kid was cool as shite.

There was a segment who voted against him who flat out said his mixed heritage is why they couldn't let him in.

Based on this experience its a good thing we have black Greek orgs, lest this girl not have any options.

And who cares if it's a private org or not... Doesn't stop reasonable people from calling out ignorant arse racism when we see it

Why is everyone so damn concerned about racism? Geez.

Well I agree with the sentiment of your question. The term racist has become terribly diluted in today's political discourse. However in this case this is a clear case of racism. The sorority alumnae wouldn't allow a back girl (who is probably culturally "white suburban") join the sorority because the color of her skin. Simply, at a human to human level, that is wrong.

Not a word of what you responded to was refutable which explains your response.
