Rule differences between NCAA and the NFL

Why don't the two use the same set of rules? For example, being able to catch the ball, fall on the ground, get up and run in the NFL vs catching the ball, falling, and being ruled down in the NCAA.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have the same rules between leagues?

College and pro baseball don't have the same rules.
College and pro basketball don't have the same rules.

Why would football be any different?

They are two different games. College is closer to high school than it is NFL.

the first rule to keep the same, is the 1 foot in play rule.

frick this, he would of come in bounds shit, if he gets a foot in, he's in.

he's either in or out. no judgement guesses, it will be an exact call, no bs.

I think the NCAA gets it right.... if you're down, you're down... there should be no getting up and running. It creates a lot of confusion and error from officials... it used to be worse before replay, but still... if a guy goes down, IMO he should be down.

Why? If anything it makes the WR susceptible to a hit without their center of gravity under them. You can catch a ball in stride if you don't have to worry about foot placement.

To me the not down rule was a way to increase scoring without being so opaque.

re: Rule differences between NCAA and the NFL
probably... pretty much every NFL rule instituted is either to increase scoring or to protect offensive players.

i'm might be the only person who feels that why about being down without contact, but I just think it's silly for a guy to get up and start running when he's on the ground.

You should have to be tackled or in someway stopped by the defense. I dont like the ground counting as a defensive player, how stupid is that

No, they aren't. Football is football. Just because the NFL has better caliber players doesn't mean they need a different set of rules. Skill is relative, if you think about it.

Care to back that up with any sort of convincing reasoning?

College players vs college players

NFL players vs NFL players

What is the difference, really? They are relatively of the same skill level, though there are standouts in the NCAA (see Clowney). But on the whole, the rule disparities have no real purpose in my eyes.

by this logic, guys who step out of bounds on their own should just be able to jump back into the field of play... b/c they weren't touched by a defender.

I've been arguing for unified codes for years now.

Won't fly on this site for a number of reasons.
