Oscar De La Hoya checks himself into rehab, will miss Canelo Mayweather fight

The timing is pretty crazy. He must have been fishing pills out of a toilet or something. Good luck to the golden boy.

"Canelo Alvarez and I have big fights coming up this weekend. His is the ring and mine in treatment," De La Hoya said in a statement. "I will not be at the fight to cheer Canelo to victory since I have voluntarily admitted myself into a treatment facility.

The Golden Boy has become a complete joke. It's sad because he was one of my idols in the world of sports growing up.
I believe this is the second time in the last year that he's gone to rehab for alcohol/cocaine or whatever.
This is really an F U to Canelo because Oscar is the one who's held him by the hand for many years and pumped him up to the boxing world and called him the next big thing.....and now, just before the biggest fight of his pro career, Oscar bails on him and goes to rehab.
Honestly, Oscar knows Canelo is gonna get his arse whipped and he doesn't wanna be there to face it. Otherwise, he would have waited another week before leaving.
I believe this is the second time in the last year that he's gone to rehab for alcohol/cocaine or whatever.
This is really an F U to Canelo because Oscar is the one who's held him by the hand for many years and pumped him up to the boxing world and called him the next big thing.....and now, just before the biggest fight of his pro career, Oscar bails on him and goes to rehab.
Honestly, Oscar knows Canelo is gonna get his arse whipped and he doesn't wanna be there to face it. Otherwise, he would have waited another week before leaving.

I know getting yourself right is important, but this seems like a huge bitch move to do this a week before the fight.

I agree, he must have been really fricked up! He probably knew partying on a fight night in Vegas was going to kill him or something. I also wish him luck on his recovery, it's gotta be HARD to stay sober after being an addict when you have money like he does.

This could be very true. But addiction is a weird thing depending on the person.

I predicted money will beat him soundly with his boxing skills. 10-2 UD. After all this golden boy drama, money might knock his arse out. But mayweather will proceed with caution, so it will probably be boring.. as usual.

Makes you wonder how much training he was doing for his last few fights. He certainly didn't appear to be in supreme fighting shape for the Pacquiao fight.

I know it will be masterful. But the masses don't appreciate that type of skill. It does make for fights that aren't overly entertaining though.

Watching mayweather box is a bore. I can't believe enough people will be watching to make the money they put up. I doubt i will even check to see who won in the morning.
