re: Regarding Cam Robinson, I'm in the minorityPosted by CROWN N COKE on 9/10/13 at 12:44 pm to TigerScratch
The problem is.....he was named the CONSENSUS #1 HIGH SCHOOL PLAYER IN AMERICA.
A player with that label should dominate every snap. That hasn't happened. He's been solid.....just not eye-popping.
Having said that......I'm no recruiter, college coach, or scout.

I hate Bama. However, I am not going to start picking apart a 17 or 18 year old kid who decided to pick a different school. Had Cam picked LSU, all we'd hear is how great he is. It's typically of LSU and probably most every schools' fans that once they get spunned for another school, they pick apart the recruit to make themselves feel better. Cam will be a beast where ever he goes.
true, you are a tiger or you are tiger bait

This whole thread reminds me of one I saw on Chris Davenport and he choose LSU.
Workout stud but against weak NELA competition and couldn't compete at the college level.
My thing is this. He dominates against High schools Seniors not college Junior and Seniors.
He will be starting next year for Bama and he better be as good as a 2 year SEC starter.

I saw Cam play last year at W. Monroe and he's the most dominant LT prospect I've ever seen.

Kid is protecting his draft status to Bama.
He's also projecting to be worthless once he reaches the league. Bama's turnover from how many kids they send so high is terrible.
LSU has more defensive players starting in the NFL in Miles tenure, than Saban has players starting for both sides.

Cam is a solid prospect. I'm not sure he's a #1 overall kind of guy, but a definite blue-chip 5* guy. He'll be a productive player at the very least.

What concerns me it that LSU let one get away from there. Usually, LSU gets all good recruits from up there. Didn't the coach or someone die recently with ties to LSU? I wonder if this was a factor as well in Cam's decision. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come with north LA kids and LSU

Yes, yes....I get that some people are going to come off as bitter.
Before Landon Collins committed to Alobama I watched his highlight videos online...then watched them again and thought to myself..."he doesnt look dominant to me"... WTF do I know. Didnt really freak out when he didnt choose LSU.
I saw Nkemdiche play here in Ga and you could see him dominating during the game. He was imposing his will on opponent and effecting the game.
Never saw Robinson play but would not shock me if he is being over hyped... It seems to happen sometimes. Thats not being bitter...its just being realistic.

The most dominant LT prospect you have ever seen? How many blue chip LTs have you watched?
Quite a few. I'm a camera man and I shoot usually two High School games a week, a College game and every Saints home game. Last year in W. Monroe I was shooting from the tower in the endzone and he was the one player on the field that your eye would gravitate to because he was beasting every play. My director had me Isolating his shot for much of the game because he was so dominant that night.

if you just went to a WM game and didn't know about all the hype surrounding the kid, the only thing that would really stand out is his size.
This is exactly what I was at the game last season and he was far and away the best player on the field.
quote:
There's quite a few people who think he's overrated and it has nothing to do with him going to Bama.
I haven't seen any of this overrated talk until he committed to Bama. From what I've seen out of Cam in that game and at a camp I filmed, the fact that he chose Bama has everything to do with this "overrated" talk.

Or maybe it's the fact that when the general consensus shifted from "LSU" to "Alabama" for his commitment.. he got bumped to #1 overall

He is not LSU; I do not care.

There is a good reason that the kid is as highly rated as he is. He is a great prospect. Only time will tell if he has what it takes to live up to the lofty expectations. I hope that he has a brutal career at Alabama. That isn't personal in any way. I hope that every GUMP sucks balls. He is no different. He has chosen to leave LA to attend our biggest, most hated rival. I hope he regrets the choice.

I think everyone worries way too much about the ESPN300. There are so many great players not in the ESPN300. Fact is only about 1/3 or 1/4 of the ESPN300 will actually perform up to ability. Usually these ESPN300 players have a sense of entitlement. I would want the great players outside the ESPN300 who are hungry to play some football, instead of top prospects worried about where they are in the rankings and think they are all that because they are running by, running over, or running around high school kids. Wait until you get to the college, your 4.45 speed, your height and weight, will get slower and smaller, because you will be playing big boy ball, especially in the SEC. LSU has been the best team over the past decade and they did it with a few top classes. LSU finds players who are not just athletes, but are also football players.
Obviously this is a list of uncommitted players. The players already committed, so far I like all of them. These are the players in the ESPN300 that I would truly want to play for LSU.:
1) Tony Brown
2) Leonard Fournette
3) Malachi Dupre
4) Clifton Garrett
I think these guys have great attitudes and are truly good athletes, but even better football players.

West Monroe fans, many of whom have no ill will towards Robinson and have seen him play a lot, versus the Camera guy and Alabama fan, who saw Cam play one game (plus a camp).
There were a lot of people that thought Robinson was a little overrated (not a lot, he is a very talented guy) long before he committed to Alabama, including Mike Scarborough. You can choose to accept this or maintain your "this is all sour grapes" position, and be wrong.
