Seriously..other than a handful of ethnic restaurants and old Algiers, the Westbank offers nothing interesting. No music venues or bars worth a shite, no museums, no attractive architecture, parks- zilch in the way of culture or entertainment. Thats why the eastbank looks down on you buddy.

Well, that's not all true.

Like you mentioned, the Point has some bars/live music venues. Gretna Fest always brings a good lineup and Bomtown brings in some decent talent every now and then. It's not great, but its not NOTHING.

For food, it has Mo's, Moscas, Gattusos is solid, Cafe 615, but no "fine dining".

Jean Lafitte park, swamp tours and good local fishing out of Lafitte as well. By boat, you're only about a 40 minute run to grand isle.

You also have Bayou Segnette for some good fresh water fishing.

For golf, youve got TPC, English Turn and Stonebridge and Timberlane are some cheaper, decent courses.

It isn't the wasteland alot make it out to be.

I've eaten at all of those places many times and none of them are anything special.

OBrien's is as fine dining as the Wank gets, and that is actually a very good place.

Westbankers have little man complex

Metairie hates Kenner, Lakeview hates Uptown, Mid City hates Gentilly, everyone hates the west bank, NOLA westbank hates Jeff westbank, Kenner hates River Ridge, River Ridge hates Harahan, Harahan hates everywhere but harahan, nobody cares about Belle Chasse except for people in Belle Chasse, BUT agreed upon by all is if you move from any of those places to the Northshore you're a sell out

Too big to be a quote but the best shite I've read here

OBrien's

O'Brien's is good enough to go up against some of the better restaurants in New Orleans in my opinion.

Café 615 is good home cooked Louisiana/southern food. I enjoy the place for what it is.

Gattuso's is so-so.

China Doll has good Chinese.

Tony Mandina's and Café Diblasi are both descent for Italian.

Mo's for pizza and muffalettas. DiMartino's is also solid for muffalettas.

Sunray Grill
New Orleans Food and Spirits
Sal's Seafood
Perino's
Hi-Do Bakery
Vietnamese and other asian places

It doesn't come close to New Orleans but like the last poster said, it's not nearly as bad as some on this board make it out to be.

I find it funny how many people in this thread live, work, or were raised in Gretna.

I was born and raised in Old Gretna and my parents still live there. Salem Lutheran Blue Knights represent!

I live about 50 yards from there.

I'm not from Old Gretna, but I love it here.

Well, it's impossible because it's just wrong, regardless of where Fitz lives.

The Northshore has 1/3 of the metro areas restaurants, good schools, clean and maintained parks, fun (smaller) festivals, live music venues and outdoor concerts and craft fairs. If you like or want suburban life, there are plenty of options at many price points starting a little more than $100/sq ft. If you want something more original, that can easily be found as well. Ample opportunities to live on or very near the water. An easier drive (from most places) to Baton Rouge or to the east (Gulf Coast). And from most places you can either be in the heart of Metairie or NOLA East in about 30/35 minutes which means you are less than an hour from just about anywhere in NOLA. The biggest benefit is it offers many things NOLA lost years ago, but still presents easy access individual events that you want to attend. The culture that NOLA offers doesn't cease to exist when you move to the Northshore.

Ha! Figured you were an up-towner because of the tulane fan thing. Not to many of them left in the city.

Yes. Yes, it does.

But to each his own.

Back on topic and the important question, does the N.S. have a Twin Peaks? I rest my case.

re: The Westbank is gonna get a Twin Peaks

Agreed, which is why saying someone who moves to the Northshore must has bad taste is kinda silly.

Whether you are interested in Suburban life or not is not really relevant. Alot of people are, and the Northshore not only offers alot of it, it offers plenty of non Suburban life as well. It is an example of diversity when selecting a home in safe areas, with good schools, suburbia or not.

Those who travel to Baton Rouge frequently (seaosn ticket holders) or go to the Gulf Coast/beach frequently (families) appreciate the ease of both of the drives. From my home to where I park on LSU's campus is have exactly 5 stop signs and two lights and both the lights are in Baton Rouge. Again, it doesn't have to matter to you, or everyone for it to be a bonus for alot of people.

Being close to the heart of Metairie (coming from Mandeville, Covington, parts of Lacombe, Madisonville) or NO east (Slidell, parts of Lacombe, Pearl River) isn't that NOLA East or Metairie is the destination, just an example that once you are there, you are pretty close to wherever you want/need to go. From Lakeside, few places in New Orleans are further than 20/25 minutes away.

quote:

The culture that NOLA offers doesn't cease to exist when you move to the Northshore.

Yes. Yes, it does.

Please do explain how those who live on the Northshore cannot experience the culture that is offered in New Orleans?

Not that any of your other points aren't valid, but you have to drive almost an hour to get that Nola culture. It isn't on the north shore. Of course you have access to it, but you don't have it.

Old Gretna is a nice little town. Can't say much else about the rest of the wank.
