For his Fine Fifteen, he has the Saints at #5. The vaunted Falcons...not listed.
quote:

5. New Orleans (1-0). Easy to see the difference between last year’s team and this one: a competent defense. Akiem Hicks, Cameron Jordan and Junior Galette pressured Matt Ryan enough so you could see how bothered he was by the pressure by the middle of the game.

Coach of the Week
quote:

Sean Payton, head coach, New Orleans. Almost gave this to defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, but Payton, as the captain of this ship for the first time since the last game of the 2011 season, showed the Saints can pick up where they left off in their days of dominance. The Saints had the discipline on both sides of the ball they often lacked last year, and Drew Brees had the sounding board he missed for 16 weeks. Payton is now 11-2 against the formidable Falcons.

He sees what we all see
quote:

Kenny Stills, fifth-round pick, Saints. Ridiculous. He’s a field-stretcher in a sophisticated offense, and it’s only Week 1.

Things he didn't like
quote:

The first big hit of Kenny Vaccaro’s career. He torpedoed into a sliding Matt Ryan, a clear penalty.

But...this hit impacted the game. Ryan didn't attempt a deep throw the rest of the game. I'd say a rare time where the penalty was worth it.

It was a late slide and nowhere near the head. It's still football, shite happens.

Yeah, while that penalty was pretty dumb, after I saw him come up slow I said sure I'll take 15 yards for that

He should have known better than to torpedo like that, but that doesn't mean my boner didn't grow.

It was actually only half the distance which ended up being only 7 or 8 yards. Best penalty of the game

I thought it was Greer who hit Ryan

I didn't think it looked that bad in actual time, but on the replay you could see Vaccaro just lay into him like a truck.

To his credit, Matty Melt did hang in there considering the Saints beat him up all game. But the Falcons forum is already goign balistic that they gave him a $100 million contract.

Hicks, Jordan and Galette are names you're going to hear about all season.

Matt Ryan is not their problem IMO.

Not on the play where Ryan slid (though it was a pretty delayed slide).

I'd love to see a gif of that hit.

Agreed. It's the fact that they spent big money and draft picks upgrading their skill positions but nothing on the offensive line.

All those toys don't matter if the line can't block

For the shite we talk, Ryan is every bit a top 6 qb and one of the very best at the 2 minute drill in the league. Also very good on roll outs and taking what is there. He's a lot like Jeff Garcia in his prime to me.

def a late slide. KV was already committed and ryan slide under him. I think they need to review the rule. If the QB wants to remain untouched, they need to slide well before contact is imminent. once defenders are diving, it needs to be too late.

since ryan wasn't injured, and only rattled, the penalty was worth it IMO

Doesn't matter. When the qb slides you aren't supposed to hit him anywhere. It's treated the same as hitting a player after the whistle, because the play is dead with the slide.

That side, I like that shot. Yep, I said it. This defense needs to be nasty.

I get that. I was saying it could've been a lot worse. I'd rather my defense try to attack than pussy foot around.

Exactly. If we accumulate penalties of aggression, I'm fine with that. It's silly mental errors that would be troublesome.

I'll agree with everyone who said the penalty was worth it. It was more of being a little too aggressive rather than being too dumb, and I'll take the aggressiveness.

I said that when it happened. Ill bet he thinks twice before leaving the pocket again next week.
