Those aren't even American troops wearing Ghillie Suits. That is the unmistakable forward sight of an AK-47 which is not the standard rifle for any US troops.

those front sight posts look too high to be of an M16 variant. Looks AKish. Doubt it's our guys, plus, I can see them. Surely not our guys.

You're correct. Those are definitely kalashnikov front sights. At first sight the Ghillie suits made me think that's a sniper unit but a closer look shows they are not carrying SVD's (the "AK" sniper rifle) but rather are carrying the standard AK-47. Not sure who they are, but I'm 100% certain they're not American.

BTW... if we're going to have an Interesting Military Photo thread, you've got to have this....

Obviously.

Sorry, I didn't catch the nuances of the original discussion.

I see a picture on the cat, but other than the picture in dispute, I can't find a tailhook down, landing approach F-35c

The one without the tailhook down is the VSTOL version for the Marines.

From what I've read, the only operational squadron with c's is the one out of Eglin that does all the test and operations stuff. They've launched off the cats at Eglin, but no landings yet.

Use to piss me off to the nth degree when I would complete a hard mission and then miss the damn aircraft carrier.

Not sure about all the pictures, but I can definitely show you how to NOT do jumpmaster duties on the tailgate of a C-130...

On a tangential note, I got into a drunken argument during the LSU game with someone who works for Lockheed and the -35.

He actually tried saying it was head and shoulders over the -22 in performance.
