With three times out left I'd maybe kick the field goal... maybe.... but with only one left? No way.

Made for a thrilling finish, though... I'll give him that.

Payton is relying on his new strong defense.

Shouldn't they show a bit of history first?

What? no. We had already been stuffed on 4th and 2. If you miss it, the Falcons would have easily sent the game to OT. The way it played out was perfect, go up by 6 and force them to put it in the endzone to win. Your defense had been playing lights out and while they did let them pretty much right down the field, they made the stop that mattered.

So...no.

he had two time outs left. burned one trying to draw them offside. eta when they should've taken a delay o game and made a 27 yarder.

I can't say I agree. Your defense had already bailed you out multiple times. If you failed to pick up the first down, a fg ties, and a td wins. By taking the points, you give your defense a chance to go all or nothing.

Which actually would have worked had they snapped it when Bierman leaned over. But they missed the opportunity. You especially don't burn a TO trying that and then still go for it.

I assume you meant 2 yards but wasn't it actually like 6 inches?

Still pissed Payton fricked up not challenging that spot.

That could have rendered this go-for-it/kick it debate meaningless.

Oh, yeah we should have kicked it there.

I'd make a smartass coment like "thanks captain hidesight" but what Payton did was right on. Take the points and force a touch down. You miss on fourth and it's +- 65 yards for OT

Looking back, no, but I thought at the time the risk was worth it.

Yes, you do. You take the time out to decide on a play. You make it, the other team is dead. You miss it, the other team has 60 yards to go for a field goal to tie... and if it's a field goal they have to settle for then the chances are greater you'd still have some time on the clock

As it stands, Jackson and then Gonzales both got their hands on the winning points.

No, it wasn't. It was worth discussing but for some stupid reason got anchored.

Why take that chance when you can force a team to go 80 yards? It's dumb. It's not like we got destroyed all day on the defense. Bend, not break for a TD is way smarter than allowing a team to go 45 yards in 2 minutes for a dome field goal opportunity.
