Don't know if it's just jersey and/or if his name will be hanging down from the roof like Archie, Rickey and the others. But that's what was said on WWL minutes ago

This is a bad move IMO.

Have a ceremony for him, give him some money, honor him in other ways, but having your number retired should be an exceedinly rare event for a team and it shold be reserved for those who earned that distinction on the field over the course of a career.

Heck, when I see #37 in Black and Gold I still think of Tommy Myers, arguably the best safety to ever play for the Saints.

Is ALS not a rare enough event for you? He was also involved in one of the most iconic plays in Saints history.

Not all the names hanging from the rafters played for the Saints, much less a sport. Gleason wouldn't be going up there for his statistics as a Saint, he'd be going up there as a person.

He made the most memorable play in Saints history so he more than deserves the honor. So STFU twat-nibblet.

I mean really?!?

I understand your reasoning but come on man, I can't tell if you take the retiring of jerseys too seriously or not serious enough.

frick, I would be cool with renaming the Superdome the Gleason Arena.

I cannot wait to be in there tomorrow. Falcons have no chance at winning now.

Also, fewer people have meant more to the New Orleans Saints and the entire spirit of New Orleans than Steve Gleason. He should have had his jersey retired long ago.

The reasoning is pretty stupid too if you know anything about the Saints. They have 2 retired numbers, Jim Taylor and Doug Atkins. Taylor played here for 1 yr and Atkins 3 yrs or so. Taylor had like 300 yards and 2 TDs all year that year.

I don't see the difference between honoring someone for a great career on the field (even though they spent little to no time w the team) and honoring someone who has had an impact on the field as well as off the field. I mean, we have banners in the Dome for Jim Finks and Dave Dixon. Gleason's been a great ambassador for the team and the city of NO.

I have zero issues with this.

I don't think his number should be retired but since he got ALS he's a folk hero- and they want to acknowledge that. Before that nobody really gave a frick.

Just playing Devil's Advocate: do Tom Dempsey and John Gilliam deserve to have their numbers retired or have their names hung from the rafters?

How about Tracy Porter when he retires? Garrett Hartley?

I'd argue Porter's play was more iconic. But whatever. Each his own.

It's gonna happen regardless of how we feel.
