Took a trip out to shurburne to shoot my new rifle. Good place to shoot especially being that I was one of two guys out there. Took a few to even get on the paper and went through a box of ammo .

Is there any place closer/better being that I'm going to have to go back to get it really dialed?

I haven't found one. Comes out better or the same if you went to a range here in BR price wise, but without all the overbearing rules and regs that come with an indoor range.

Yeah I guess at the end of the day you can't beat free and it isn't all THAT far. Pretty cool if you go when no one is there too

The good part about Sherburne is there are usually enough people there with common sense who know how to obey the range rules.

It's good to see a range run by policing itself. If that ever stops, we could very well lose access to it.

Are you using a rifle rest, like a Lead sled to hold the rifle?

When sighting a rifle, it a must have tool. The one I posted above is a Caldwell Solo. they have them at Cabelas for $100.

I shot there last week for the first time. I prefer it, possibly throw the kayak in when done or watch deer and alligators run across the road while driving through.

I did see a doe run out across that bumpy arse road. Got a little excited too

I've seen deer crossing the last 2 times during what would be good hunting times in season. An 8 point and most likely a doe and 2 yearlings.

It's pretty nice now that they cut the levee.

Does anyone know what all the cuts into the woods were done for? Is that for hunter parking or drainage?

nah you don't have to look at all the tactical weapons experts.. dressed in pseudo military gear and you can shoot at REAL distances.....

the APSO rifle range (when it's open) is pretty good.....

sorry but some of these tactical freaks make me nervous.....I see some of these guys fumbling with safeties and mags and handling their weapon like it was a garden hose... and it makes me think a little differently about the 2nd amendment...albeit briefly

I pulled up around 330.

The tactical crew youre talking about sounds like a bad time. A very bad time

I like Sherburne because it's pretty much the closest one to BR, it's free, and as one poster said you can shoot a rifle at 100 yards instead of 25 at an indoor. Sighting in a rifle at 25 is worthless.

Hogdaddy, I've heard mixed reviews about the Lead sled. I hear it's great to stay on target and reduces recoil. But then my dad tells me it is extremely hard on scopes using a higher caliber rifle. He bought a shoulder pad to be able to sight in his 300 mag all day without dislocating a shoulder. He said the lead sled would've been very rough on his swarowski glass, which as you can expect isn't cheap.

Then again for an AR like the picture, I imagine it would do very little to the scope.
